Chapter 294

AUTHOR’S POV.

The soft clatter of a tray against the doorframe pulled Alina from her restless sleep. She groaned, rolling over to new the servant peeking in, quietly announcing breakfast.

Miss Alina, breakfast is ready, the maid said in a voice and polite tone, trying not to disturb her sleep.

Alina rubbed her eyes, sitting up. Comingshe murmured, pulling on a robe and tying it hastily. Her hair was still massed, sticking out in little tufts, but she didn’t care. Today mattered far more than appearances.

As she stepped into the hallway, the early morning light spilling through the tall windows highlighted the quiet grandeur of the Evergreen manor. The hallway felt empty at first, but she could hear footsteps approaching from opposite directions.

Talia rounded the corner, still halfasleep, hair tumbling over her shoulders in soft waves, eyes blinking rapidly as she focused on Alina. Morning, she mumbled, her voice hoarse but warming as she saw Alina.

Morning,” Alina replied, smirking slightly at Talia’s disheveled look. You look cute, in a messy, endoftheworld kind of way.”

Talia rolled her eyes but smiled. I could say the same to you,she muttered, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear. 1

sn’t expecting to be woken up this early, though. Don’t the servants know it’s a Saturday?

re Alina could answer, Damien appeared at the far end of the hallway, yawning and stretching exaggeratedly. iously? Breakfast now?he groaned, tugging on the collar of his shirt. Couldn’t they wait fifteen minutes?

Alina raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms. You shouldn’t be complaining Damien, you should be used to this already considering you grew up here. Come on, it’s time.

Damien groaned again but fell into step beside them, hands shoved into his pockets. I still say this is unnecessary,” he muttered, though there was a spark of excitementor maybe it was irritation hidden behind his casual tone.

The three of them reached the dining area, where Luna was already moving gracefully among the dishes, setting down plates of fruit, steaming coffee, and freshly baked bread. She smiled warmly, as if trying to smooth over the faint tension hanging in the air.

Darius, sitting at the head of the table with his usual composed demeanor, glanced at the trio. So.. hope you all have no intentions of going out today?he asked, his voice light but firm.

Uhm we are father, why?Damien asked a little confused by the question.

Before Darius could say anything, Alina chipped in.

We thought it would be a good idea to take Talia on a tour of the city. She said excitedly.

Talia tried to hide her smile because she knows that their outing today has nothing to do with her getting a tour of the city.

A tour?? Have you guys not seen the news today? There was a shootout at a restaurant in town. Two people were killed, and several others were injured. Investigations are ongoing. Don’t you think it’sreckless to go out?

Alina exchanged a quick glance with Talia and Damien. Talia pressed her lips together, worry flickering across her features while Damien let out a small laugh, as if the idea of Alina’s recklessness was inevitable.

Luna stepped closer, her presence calm and warm. Now, now,she said softly, let’s not let Dariusworries dampen the morning. Why don’t we talk about something more cheerful? The party preparations, for instance. There are so many

details to finalize, Seating arrangements, decorations, menu selections

Alina let out a short, amused sigh. Mother, you’re just looking for an opportunity to bring the party into the conversation.Talia chuckled softly, and even Damien’s amused grin softened the edges of his sleepiness.

Well I won’t deny it.Luna shrugged with a smile.

The breakfast continued with polite chatter, but Alina’s mind was elsewhere. She was already thinking about the lead Talia had uncovered and the man they were hunting.

The news replay in her mind, the shootout, the timing and a prickling sense in her gut told her this was connected.

Once breakfast ended, and the last of the plates were cleared, Alina motioned for Talia and Damien to follow her to her room. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?she asked, a spark of excitement in her gray eyes.

Talia tilted her head, raising an eyebrow. Umdefinitely not. What are you thinking?

That the man we are looking for has something to do with this.Alina told them.

Huh?Talia said.

Alina’s lips curved into a small smile. Let’s checklet’s look at the news first.”

Damien groaned but retrieved his phone, his expression half irritated, half curious. You’re serious?

Absolutely,Alina said firmly. We need to see what’s happening. Something tells me this shootoutit’s related.

They huddled around the phone, watching the news feed.

Alina leaned over Damien’s shoulder as he unlocked his phone. Okaylet’s see what’s happening.”

Talia squinted at the screen. You really think this has something to do with the man we’re looking for?

Alina didn’t answer, her eyes glued to the feed.

Damien scrolled to the news app. Here we go. Anchor saysEarlier today, a shootout occurred at a restaurant near downtown Ravinne. Two people have been confirmed dead, several others injured. Authorities are investigating.
