Chapter 100 Perfect Bait
Chapter 100 Perfect Bait
Jasper still believed that everything between him and Alliance 749 had been one big misunderstanding.
He had no grudge against Alliance 749, and there was no way they would deliberately screw him over.

Maybe he had said something wrong back then and offended Harlan. But no matter what, it had to be something trivial. Once they talked it out, everything would be fine. After all, Alliance 749 had hand–picked him for this project. Now that something had gone wrong, as long as the misunderstanding was cleared up, they would definitely help him.
“Fine, Mr. Kain, we’ll trust you this once. We’ll come back in five days. If there’s still no money by then, don’t blame us for being ruthless,” the investors said at last.
In the end, they left. Camping out here wasn’t going to get them their money, so they might as well give Jasper a few days to try.
Jasper watched them go and finally let out a breath of relief. But Harlan had already blocked him. How was he supposed to see him again, or get in touch with any of Alliance 749’s other executives?
What happened to the Kains quickly reached Noelle’s ears. She laughed softly. “Looks like Jasper still believes Alliance 749 will save him.”
That made sense. From his point of view, he had no feud with Alliance 749. How could he possibly imagine that she was the boss of Alliance 749?
Since that was the case, she decided to give him one more gift, one that would send him straight into hell.
“Have someone tell Jasper that the project failed because Harlan tampered with it. Tell him the boss of Alliance 749 already knows and will deal with Harlan and clean up the mess for him.”
“What?” the subordinate blurted out.
“The boss is out of town and needs seven days to return. During that time, Jasper has to handle everything himself. Once the boss is back, he’ll be compensated,” Noelle continued calmly.
The subordinate was stunned and had no idea what Noelle was planning, but he still passed the message along as ordered.
When Jasper received the news, he was initially suspicious. But when he saw the internal disciplinary notice against Harlan, all his doubts vanished.
Everything suddenly made sense. No wonder the project had gone wrong. No wonder Harlan had turned on him so abruptly. It turned out Harlan had been pulling strings behind the scenes.
Gresham put on his usual inscrutable expression again. “I told you, working with Alliance 749 couldn’t possibly go wrong. Since this was an internal oversight on their part, shouldn’t they be held responsible? The money we invested, and the money from the shareholders and investors, shouldn’t all be paid back?” he said.
Jasper pressed his lips together and fell silent, deep in thought.
Alliance 749 had promised to cover all of his losses this time. More importantly, disaster had turned into opportunity. He had unexpectedly made contact with the boss himself.
With that connection, what was there to worry about in the future?

If he just followed Alliance 749 on a few more projects, he might easily earn back everything he had lost this time, and then some.
However, the boss would not be back for seven days, while the investors‘ deadline was only five days away. That might also have been the boss’s way of testing Jasper’s capability and financial strength.
After thinking it through again and again, Jasper decided to go all in. He had no choice but to drain the Kains‘ remaining reserves to stabilize the situation. He absolutely could not let things spiral out of control, and he could not let Alliance 749 think he was incapable of handling even something like this.
“Sell all 30–plus storefronts the family owns. Cash them out immediately. Mom, Viola, you two should take out your jewelry and handbags for now. Once we get through this, I’ll buy you more and better ones. And get rid of the decorative items and collectibles we don’t really need. As for the motorcycles in the garage, Elmer isn’t using them anyway. Sell all of them,” Jasper ordered.
With that single decision, Jasper had effectively stripped the Kains bare.
Gresham watched helplessly as servants carried out the antique landscape paintings, rare vases, and vintage tableware he had spent a fortune collecting. His heart ached as if it were being carved out.
Willow felt even worse. Many of those storefronts had been part of her wedding gift. Now they were being dumped at bargain prices in a rush sale. How could she not be heartbroken?
Viola’s eyes reddened with anger. Those pieces of jewelry and designer bags had been her prized possessions, the very things she flaunted at school. Now they were all gone.
