If they ever found out that this had all been a carefully laid trap from start to finish, that every asset they’d dumped at dirt–cheap prices had ultimately landed in Noelle’s hands, their expressions would probably be priceless.

She tapped the screen lightly. “Nice work. But the amount the Kains need to cover this time is close to a billion. Even if they sold off all their properties, storefronts, and jewelry, that still wouldn’t be enough, right?”

“Sharp as always, Boss. By our estimates, they’re still short by about 50 million,” Harlan replied.

Fifty million.

A sly curve appeared at the corner of Noelle’s lips. “Then let’s help them out a little more. Have Shane go ‘give him some advice‘ and point him toward a high–interest loan.”

The investors still cared about their reputations, so their debt collection methods were far too civilized.

This kind of thing needed professionals–loan sharks.

“Got it. I’ll set it up right away.”

Noelle spun her phone in her hand. The smile on her lips had not faded as she happily scooped up another bite of watermelon.

“What’s got you so happy?” a warm voice asked from beside her.

Noelle turned her head and saw Sebastian wheeling himself over.

“Nothing special, I just did something that feels really satisfying when I think about it,” she said with a grin. She smiled like a cat that had just stolen some cream, with a hint of playful mischief.

Sebastian took one look at her and knew she’d pulled another sneaky stunt.

He shook his head with an amused smile, picked up a thin blanket from the couch, and gently draped it over her legs. “It’s only early summer, enjoying the cool air is fine, but don’t overdo it. You’ll catch a chill,” he said softly.

Noelle smiled sweetly and dragged out her words. “I know. You’re so thoughtful, honey.”

She cheerfully speared the reddest piece of watermelon with her fork and held it up to his lips. “Here. Open up. You get a reward. Extra sweet watermelon.”

Sebastian paused for a moment, his deep gaze lingering on her smiling face. In the end, he gave in and opened his mouth slightly, letting her feed him the cool piece of fruit.

The sweet juice spread across his tongue and seemed to sink straight into his chest.

A faint but genuine smile appeared on Sebastians lips, and a subtle flush crept up to the tips of his ears.

“Boss, Jasper took the bait,” the voice on the phone reported excitedly. “He really went to Shane and borrowed 50 million in high–interest loans. The guy’s got some nerve.”

At loan–shark rates, the daily interest on fifty million alone climbed past a hundred thousand. Jasper had signed without even blinking.

Noelle was not surprised by the outcome.

When someone was truly cornered, who cared whether the solution was poison?

He was probably still dreaming, thinking he’d be able to plug the hole soon enough.

Her lips curved slightly as she began to look forward to the moment when that mountain of debt came crashing down on him, and to the expression that would be on his face when it did.

She decided to let him enjoy himself for a few more days.

Inside the living room of the Kain estate, the atmosphere was anything but relaxed.

Willow held onto Jasper’s hand, her face full of worry. “Jasper, loan sharks are dangerous. You can’t mess with that kind of money. What if something goes wrong?”

“Stop being soft. You don’t know what you’re talking about,” Gresham snorted impatiently from the side.

Jasper, on the other hand, sounded relaxed. “Mom, don’t worry. As long as we pay it back on time, there won’t be any problems. The boss of Alliance 749 promised me personally that she would compensate our losses. She’s just out of town and will be back in a few days. Once she gets here, the Kains will be back to normal.”

“That’s good, that’s good…” Willow finally relaxed a little.

Viola let out a breath of relief as well. So much had happened to the Kains these past few days that she had been scared out of her mind. She was terrified that if the Kains really collapsed, her status as the Kain family’s young lady would be gone.

Noelle felt thirsty and went downstairs to the kitchen to grab a bottle of milk. She took small sips as she headed back upstairs. When she passed Sebastian’s room, she noticed the door was slightly open, with light spilling out through the gap.
