“What?” The man looked confused by Jasper’s words. “No way. Fired? I saw him just a couple of days ago representing Alliance 749 at a business conference.”
The smile on Jasper’s face froze instantly. “You must be mistaken.”
“There’s no way I got it wrong, I really saw him. Look,” the man said confidently.
He pulled out his phone and flipped to photos from the conference a few days earlier. Right in the center of one picture stood Harlan, clear as day. “See? He was still wearing an Alliance 749 badge, and Harlan is still in charge of Alliance 749’s herbal shop. I go to Gallows Market all the time. I see him inspecting their herbal shop there pretty often, the man continued.
Jasper stared at the photo as a chill shot from his feet straight to the top of his head. It was a bright, sunny day, yet cold sweat broke out all over his body.
At Gallows Market, Jasper stood dazed in a corner, the image replaying over and over in his mind.
Alliance 749 had said Harlan was disciplined and fired, yet just days ago he had represented them at a conference.
Combined with Alliance 749’s increasingly strange attitude, something felt deeply wrong.
The more Jasper thought about it, the more unsettled he became. That was why he came to Gallows Market, determined to see the truth for himself.
Alliance 749’s largest herbal shop in Riverdale sat right in the center of Gallows Market. Jasper waited in a hidden spot for nearly two hours before he finally saw Harlan appear.
Harlan strode into the shop with two bodyguards following behind him.
When the shop staff saw him, they greeted him with obvious respect. Jasper’s chest tightened as he watched. There was not the slightest hint that this man had been fired.
Blood rushed to Jasper’s head, and a metallic taste filled his throat. He forced it down.
He didn’t rush out. He wanted to see what they were really up to.
Inside the herbal shop, Harlan personally packaged several medicinal herbs. These were items Noelle had specifically requested and planned to pick up that day.
He didn’t trust anyone else with them, so he had come in person. After finishing the packaging, he waited eagerly.

Jasper could tell Harlan was waiting for someone, which surprised him. Who could be important enough to make Harlan wait like this?

Jasper stayed patient. After another half hour, someone finally appeared. The moment Harlan saw who it was, he hurried forward with obvious enthusiasm.
“Boss!”
“Harlan.”
Harlan smiled broadly, deep lines creasing his face. “I’ve prepared all the herbs you wanted. I’ve been waiting just for you.”
Noelle nodded and stepped into the herbal shop
Harlan followed behind her cheerfully, looking like an overexcited old man.
In the corner, Jasper felt ice–cold all over. His eyes widened, almost splitting at the corners.
Noelle.
How could it be her?
Why was she here?
And Harlan wasn’t just familiar with her. He was openly warm, even flattering toward her.
Jasper’s tall figure seemed nailed to the ground, unable to move even an inch.
Inside the herbal shop, Noelle picked up the herbs and exchanged a few words with Harlan before walking out. Harlan personally escorted her to the door.
“Noelle!”
Jasper’s voice rang out, practically grinding through his teeth.
Noelle and Harlan instinctively turned toward the sound and spotted Jasper.
They exchanged a glance. Harlan frowned, while Noelle curled her lips into a smile.
Neither of them had expected to run into Jasper here.
“Why are you here?” Jasper demanded as he strode forward, his gaze fixed on Noelle like nails pinning her in place.
Noelle remained calm and unbothered. “If you can be here, why can’t I?”

Seeing the smile on her face and the complete lack of surprise in her eyes, Jasper clenched his fists so tightly that his bones creaked. He took a deep, forceful breath. “I’m asking you, what exactly is your relationship with Harlan?” he said, his voice tight.
“Harlan? I’ve known him for over 10 years,” Noelle laughed softly.
Over 10 years.
That meant Noelle had already known Alliance 49’s top people back when she was still with the Kains.
“So all of this was you,” Jasper said, his voice shaking.
“From the very start of the project to everything that followed. You set the whole trap and watched me walk straight into it.”
Everything finally made sense.
Noelle did not deny it. She admitted it openly, without hesitation. “Yeah, that’s right. It was me. Otherwise, what made you think the Kains had the strength to get Alliance 749 to work with you?”
Dizziness hit Jasper. His eyes turned bloodshot as he stared at the girl he had once doted on. His voice sounded like it was being torn out of his chest.
“First you lured us in with the project and drained the Kains dry. Then you pushed us into borrowing from loan sharks. Why? Why would you do this?”
“Because I wanted to. Because it made me happy” Noelle said with a wide grin.
That smile completely enraged Jasper.
“Noelle, the Kains raised you for 18 years. If my parents hadn’t taken you in, you’d have been dead a long time ago. The Kains never mistreated you. I never wronged you. And this is how you repay us? You turn around and destroy us. Do you even have a heart?” he roared.
Noelle watched him lose control, her expression cold and unreadable. She did not say a word.
Jasper’s eyes were filled with red veins as he glared at her. Completely consumed by rage, he raised his hand and swung hard, slapping her.
