Viola saw how secretive Jasper was and grew even more curious. The moment he left, she quietly followed after him.
She pressed herself against the study door, listening to the voices inside.
Jasper had left in such a hurry and hadn’t even closed the study door properly, giving Viola the perfect opportunity.
“So, did you find out? Mr. Haller has been anxious to track down Noelle. What exactly is he after?”
Mr. Haller?
Viola frowned and pressed her ear closer, listening intently.
“I’ve been investigating nonstop these past few days, Mr. Kain, and I finally uncovered something. Mr. Haller seems to be looking for Noelle because she once saved him.”
Jasper’s furrowed brow relaxed. “That’s all?”
The weight in his chest finally eased.
He’d been worried Roman was after Noelle for something dangerous, which was why he hadn’t dared tell Roman about Noelle’s identity.
If it were only this, then he could openly tell Roman who Noelle was and maybe even help the Kains weather this crisis. It would be killing two birds with one stone.
“It doesn’t seem to be just that. There’s also…”
The voice on the other end paused.
Jasper pressed, “Also, what?”
“Mr. Haller…” The assistant’s voice carried uncertainty, yet came through the phone clearly. “He seems to believe Ms. Kain may be the long–lost daughter of a top–tier family in Kingstowne.”
“What?” Jasper shot up from his chair, the tension in his mind snapping all at once. “Which family?”
Outside the door, Viola clapped a hand over her mouth. Her pupils shrank, and it felt as if all the blood in her body froze.

A tup Kingsdowne family?
Novelle, that back!
Names!
–
Um.. Mr. Haller’s keeping things very tight–lipped. I haven’t been able to confirm which family yet.”
The assistant’s tone was cautious and apologetic. But judging by how urgently and seriously Mr. Haller is treating this that family’s power and status are likely far beyond what we can imagine. Mr. Kain, if Ms. Kain really is connected to such a family, then her attitude toward the Rains-‘
The assistant didn’t finish the sentence, but Jasper already understood.
If Noelle truly had such a terrifying background, then everything the Kains had done to her over the past decade would be nothing short of digging their own grave.
Jasper closed his eyes. Alright. I understand. Thank you for your hard work on this
Then should we tell Ms. Kain about her background?”
“Noelle has always wanted to find her parents. Since we already owe her so much, we should give this back to her.” Jasper said quietly, eyes still closed.
Willow had carried her out of the hospital all those years ago, separating Noelle from her parents for over a decade. That was the Kains” fault.
What the Kains owed Noelle should be repaid. He would introduce Noelle to Roman. If she truly found her biological parents, then he would wish her well and let her finally get what she wanted.
“No!” Viola screamed as she burst into the room her face twisted with manic jealousy and fear. “You can’t tell Noelle! You can’t tell her!”
Jasper froze at Viola’s sudden intrusion, then anger surged. “Viola! You were eavesdropping on my call?
“So what if I was?”
Viola rushed to the desk, slammed both hands down on it, leaned forward, and stared Jasper down. “Jasper, wake up! Introduce Noelle to Mr. Haller? Help her find her real parents? Did you forget how she treated me in the restaurant today? Did you forget how she’s using the Menzies to crush the Kains now? Did you forget how Mom ended up in prison?”
Her voice grew shrill and hysterical. “If she findsome top Kingstowne family to back her, the
