His gaze was sharper than ever, filled with a resolve Viola had never seen before. A chill ran through her. She opened her mouth to argue, but under Jasper’s icy stare, every word got stuck in her throat.

She knew this time he meant it.

Viola stomped her foot, shot Jasper a venomous glare, then turned and stormed out of the study.

Noelle lay sprawled on the couch, comfortably watching TV on her tablet.

Viola cried even harder. “Jasper! I’m begging you! Don’t tell her! At least … at least wait until after the SAT, okay? Let me take the SAT properly, please?”

“Alright. After you finish the SAT, I’ll tell her.” Jasper closed his eyes. In the end, he couldn’t harden his heart and agreed.

After the SAT, he would tell Noelle.

Noelle sent Helen to school.
