Yvette looked at her with concern and put a piece of her favorite BBQ ribs on her plate.

Actually, Mary used to dote on Alina, too. But after Alina’s younger sister was born, everything changed. Everyone spoiled the younger sister, and Alina was left on her own. Later, when the sister went missing, Mary treated Alina like a stranger.
After dinner, Sebastian and the others left first. Noelle went back to the dorm.
They couldn’t stay on campus for long. Noelle had wanted to live off–campus, but Kingstowne University had a rule: all freshmen had to live in dorms.
“Noey, we’re heading out. Keep in touch. If anyone bullies you, tell me right away!” Lucas waved casually, but his eyes were
serious.
Sebastian didn’t say much. He just looked at Noelle for a moment, then gently ruffled her hair and said softly, “If you get bored, just text me. I’m always available. Also, see you the day after tomorrow.”
See you the day after tomorrow?
What did that mean?
Noelle looked at him, confused. Sebastian leaned down and lightly kissed her forehead, then turned and left with Kevin and Lucas. Their tall figures stood out on campus, catching a lot of attention.
When Noelle returned to Room 407, the atmosphere inside felt a little strange.
Eleanor and Quinna were trying to chat with Holly Hodgson, but Holly just kept her head down. Whenever they tried to talk to her, she just gave short, awkward answers like “yeah” or “uh–huh.” She seemed really shy and closed off.
Her bed was already made. The faded sheets and patched–up blanket were a sharp contrast to Noelle’s bed next to it, which looked comfortable and high–end.
When they heard the door open, all three looked over.
Eleanor’s eyes lit up like she was seeing a lifesaver. “Noelle! You’re back!”
“Yeah.” Noelle nodded lightly and walked to her desk.
Holly glanced at Noelle. She remembered her–the girl who had just gone downstairs surrounded by several hot guys.
Now that Noelle was closer, Holly could really feel her cool, confident vibe. She also noticed that while Noelle’s clothes looked simple, they were expensive.
A wave of insecurity hit Holly hard. She felt totally out of place.
Noelle opened her cabinet, took out a few packs of imported snacks, and casually placed them in the middle of the table.
“I brought some snacks. Help yourselves.”
Eleanor cheered. “Wow! Thanks, Noelle!”

Quinna pushed up her glasses and said politely, “Thank you.”
Holly stared at the snacks, her teeth clenched.
What, is she just trying to show off how rich she is?
Does she think I can’t afford snacks?

She gritted her teeth and said loudly on purpose, “No thanks. I never eat snacks. Do you know how many people can’t even afford food? And you’re eating snacks like this? Also, my SAT score was 1557. What about yours?”
Eleanor’s hand froze in midair as she reached for the snacks. She exchanged an awkward look with Quinna.
A 1557 really was an extremely high score–better than most test takers.
Holly straightened her back and lifted her chin. Her scores had always been what she was most proud of.
She glanced at Noelle, but Noelle looked totally unimpressed, like 1557 was no big deal. Holly felt a wave of frustration, like she was punching a pillow. She couldn’t stand it and said, “I–I asked you! What were your scores?”
Her eyes locked especially on Noelle.
Eleanor scratched her cheek, a bit embarrassed. “I … got 1489. I barely made the cut for Kingstowne University. Luckily, I had bonus points for special talents.”
Quinna adjusted her glasses and said calmly, “1519.”
Their scores were great, but still clearly lower than Holly’s.
