His low voice was heard across the field through the microphone. “Congratulations, Noelle.”

Carefully, almost reverently, he placed the medal around her neck. His fingers accidentally brushed the back of her neck, and she felt a warm tingle.

From an angle the crowd couldn’t see, he whispered something just for her, “How is your foot? Get it checked as soon as you’re back.”

Noelle looked up and met his eyes.

“It’s just a small injury,” she said with a smile.

The cameras caught everything and broadcast it live.
