Sebastian gave a slight nod. “Right now, it looks like Mr. Brandon is running the family, but the real authority still lies with Mr. Ronald in Riverdale. In his heart, the scales have always tipped in Lucas’s favor. This 50th birthday banquet–if Lucas, the legitimate eldest son, doesn’t show up at all, then in outsiders‘ eyes, the Steele family will truly belong to that mother–and–son pair. Mr. Ronald is using the banquet to ‘legitimize‘ Lucas–and to warn certain people not to overstep.”
Noelle leaned back in her seat, eyes half–lidded.
Looks like this Sunday’s banquet was bound to be a spectacle.
The next day.
At the hospital.
Noelle stood with the other students, continuing their observation session.
“Noelle, how do you think the depth of this needle point is?”
Robin suddenly asked as he inserted the needles, turning his head mid–procedure.
Eleanor and the other students froze.
Notebooks in hand, they stared at Robin in confusion, clearly unable to understand why he was suddenly asking Noelle.
Noelle was caught off guard, too.
She sighed inwardly.
“It’s fine,” she replied.
Robin instantly looked encouraged. Even his movements seemed to speed up.
“Then, what about this patient’s pulse? Is it stress–related inflammation, or anxiety–driven cardiac response?” he asked earnestly after finishing the needles.
This time, even the patient looked puzzled and muttered under his breath, “What’s gotten into Mr. Werner today? Why is he asking a student everything…”
Eleanor quietly tugged Noelle’s sleeve and mouthed, What’s going on, Noelle?
Noelle had no choice but to step forward. “Mr. Werner, I’m just a student. You’re the expert here.”
“Ah–right, right.”
Robin immediately realized she didn’t want attention drawn to her. He forcibly swallowed his urge to consult her and shut his
mouth.
After the morning session ended, Noelle and the others went to the cafeteria. After lunch, just like the day before, Noelle took Eleanor and Quinna back to the RV.

The hospital had already arranged a private lounge for her–couch, air–conditioning, everything–but Noelle still chose the RV. Otherwise, with Eleanor’s gossip–loving nature, her identity as a guest expert at the municipal hospital wouldn’t stay secret for
long.
Ring–ring–ring-
Her phone suddenly rang.
Noelle glanced at the caller ID. It was Franz. She answered.
“Alright, I understand. I’ll come over,” she said, nodding.
“Noelle, what’s up?” Eleanor asked.
“I need to handle something,” Noelle replied, putting away her phone. “You two rest here. I’ll be back soon.”
“Okay!” Eleanor nodded vigorously, then added, “If you need help, just call us!”
Noelle smiled in response, stepped out of the RV, and headed toward the administrative building.
At the dean’s office.
Franz and Terrence were already waiting inside. When Noelle entered, both stood up.
“Noelle, please sit,” Franz said warmly. “This is Mr. Salinger–you met yesterday.”
Compared to his frail state in the hospital bed the day before, Terrence looked much better today. His face was still pale, but his eyes were bright and alert.
He studied Noelle with clear amazement and gratitude. “Ms. Kain, I really owe you my life. If you hadn’t stepped in yesterday, I doubt I’d still be sitting here.”
“You’re too kind. It was simply my duty as a doctor,” Noelle said calmly as she took a seat.
“For you, maybe, but for me, it was a second chance at life!” Terrence said with emotion, “I’ve consulted countless holistic doctors. They all said my condition was chronic and so deep–seated it was basically unfixable. And you reset it with a few needles. Mr. Werner said you used a lost technique–Golden Needle?”
Noelle neither confirmed nor denied it. She only smiled faintly. “Just an old family method. Nothing special.”
“Nothing special?” Terrence grew animated. “This is extraordinary! Ms. Kain, to be honest, I’m currently preparing a documentary on the roots of holistic medicine. I’ve seen way too many flashy frauds and so–called ‘gurus.‘ I honestly thought the real thing was gone–that there wasn’t anyone left who actually knew what they were doing. Then, I met you yesterday.”
