Mary’s voice trembled as she ended the call. She turned to Angus in a panic. “Dad! Charlotte was in a car accident! Her leg is trapped, there’s a lot of bleeding–it’s serious! I have to get there right now!”
The moment Angus heard that, he panicked too and pushed himself up from the chair. “Where is she? I’m going with you!”
“Dad! With your health, you can’t!” Mary tried to stop him. “And Mr. Haller already brought someone to treat you”
“I’m not so old I can’t move! Those are my granddaughters! Both of them were in an accident–what illness am I supposed to treat now?”
Angus snapped, his tone firm and unquestionable. “Prepare the car. Now!”
The butler had already heard the commotion and hurried to arrange vehicles and staff.
Mary couldn’t argue any longer. Anxious and frantic, she supported Angus, and the group rushed outside.
Just as the Guzmans hurried across the front courtyard and were about to reach the main gate-
Roman arrived with Noelle from the side corridor, stepping through the stone arch that connected to the front yard.
One group rushed outward from the main hall, the other walked inward from the side corridor. Between them stood a sculpted rock garden and tall, manicured hedges.
They neatly blocked the view.
Mary focused solely on supporting the coughing, unsteady Angus, her eyes fixed on the gate ahead. She didn’t spare a glance toward the side corridor.
Roman was speaking quietly to Noelle. She tilted her head slightly to listen, looking relaxed and unhurried.
Her gaze drifted casually over the courtyard scenery beneath the brim of her cap, not immediately noticing the group hurrying past on the other side of the rockery.
Just as Angus, supported by Mary and the butler, was about to step over the threshold-
A gust of wind swept through the corridor. Noelle pressed down the brim of her baseball cap.
And instinctively lifted her eyes. Her gaze slipped past the jagged stones and caught a fleeting glimpse–an elderly man in a dark silk outfit being supported, and beside him, half of a socialite’s anxious face.
Just a split–second impression.
The next moment, the Guzmans vanished through the gate, the faint sound of engines starting drifting over.
Noelle’s steps paused–almost imperceptibly.
“What is it?” Roman noticed the slight hesitation.
“Nothing,” Noelle withdrew her gaze, her tone calm. “Thought I saw someone from the Guzman Residence rushing out.”
Roman looked toward the gate, brows knitting slightly. “That urgent? Did something happen?”

He glanced at Noelle. “Let’s go in first and see if Mr. Angus is there.”
They entered the main hall, only to find several flustered servants clearing the tea table.
“Mr. Haller, you’re here.”

A middle–aged man who looked like the butler stepped forward, apologetic. “I’m terribly sorry. Mr. Angus and Mrs. Mary just left due to an emergency.”
“Left? What kind of emergency?” Roman asked.
“It’s… Ms. Guzman and Ms. Charlotte were in a car accident. Mr. Angus and Mrs. Mary rushed over.”
The butler hurried to add, “Before leaving, the old master instructed that if you arrived, we must convey his apologies. He’ll visit another day to make amends.”
Roman’s expression darkened.
A car accident?
And on this very day?
He glanced at Noelle, who remained calm, suspicion deepening in his heart.
Was it a coincidence?
Or did someone deliberately not want Noelle and Angus to meet?
Noelle didn’t dwell on it. She looked at Roman. “Mr. Haller, since Mr. Angus has urgent matters, let’s come back another day.”
Roman sighed. He knew there was no chance of seeing Angus today.
“Alright. Dr. Kain, I’m sorry to have brought you all this way for nothing. Let’s head back.”
“No trouble,” Noelle replied lightly, lowering the brim of her cap again.
The two turned and left the Guzman residence.
Roman personally sent Noelle back. “Dr. Kain, today was indeed a special circumstance. How about tomorrow? I’ll come pick you up myself. This won’t happen again.”
Noelle shook her head. “No need. I have plans tomorrow.”
Tomorrow, she still had to attend Lucas’s father’s 50th birthday banquet.
The hospital corridor was heavy with tension.
Mary’s face was cold, her voice sharp with anger and resentment. “Alina! You’re getting more.reckless the older you get! How could you drive so carelessly?! Look at Charlotte–eight stitches! So much blood, her face went white! She’s afraid of pain and weak by nature–when has she ever suffered like this?!”
Alina lowered her head. A bandage was taped to the back of her hand. Her face was expressionless, but her fingers curled slightly/3.

Angus walked over just in time to hear that. He stepped in front of Alina, shielding her, and looked at Mary sternly. “Mary Alina is your daughter, too! When something happens, you don’t first check if she’s hurt or frightened–yet you stand here blaming her nonstop? What kind of logic is that?”
“Dad! Charlotte is hurt that badly–I can’t even say a few words out of concern? Didn’t you see how badly she’s injured?!”
“She’s badly hurt, and Alina isn’t unscathed either,” Angus said coldly. “Do you think she wanted an accident to happen? They’re both your daughters. They’re both your flesh and blood. How can you be so obviously biased?”
