And half a step in front of him stood a man tall and straight as a pine, every inch of him radiating restrained nobility.
His features were cold and striking, deep–set eyes sweeping across the room, carrying a pressure that was impossible to ignore.
At his side, linked through his arm, was a young woman in a moon–white evening dress.
The dress was simply tailored, accentuating her slender figure. Her dark hair was loosely pinned up with an emerald hairpin, her features pure and refined, her aura calm and detached.
Standing beside the imposing Sebastian, she didn’t fade into the background at all–if anything, the two of them formed an oddly harmonious, radiant pairing.
The moment the trio appeared, they became the center of attention.
Belinda’s gentle smile almost cracked.
Lucas?!
Why is he here?!
And the people beside him-
Belinda’s eyes flew open in shock.
Brandon clearly hadn’t expected Lucas to show up either. He froze for a moment, a flash of complicated emotion passing through his eyes.
Sebastian stepped forward, inclining his head slightly, his voice steady. “Mr. Brandon, happy birthday. I’m Sebastian Menzie. This is my wife, Noelle Kain.”
He turned slightly to introduce her. “Noelle, this is Mr. Brandon.”
Noelle stepped forward half a pace, still holding Sebastian’s arm, and offered a light, appropriate smile. “Mr. Brandon, happy birthday. It’s just a small gift–please accept it.”
She gestured to the gift box Primo handed over from behind them, her posture composed and graceful.
The name “Sebastian Menzie” sparked a ripple of hushed whispers.
“Sebastian Menzie?! Isn’t that the eldest son of the Menzie family? Didn’t they say his legs were crippled?”
“Look at him standing there–does he look crippled to you?”
“My god, this is huge news. The Menzies really kept this under wraps.”
“I heard Mr. Theodore’s health has been getting worse. His coming back–don’t tell me it’s to fight for the family inheritance?”
“Hard to say.”
Brandon was also taken aback. The last time he’d seen Sebastian was years ago, when the man had been confined to a wheelchair, his entire demeanor bleak and defeated. Now, not only were his legs healed, but his presence was far more commanding than

before.
Suppressing his shock, Brandon accepted the gift box from the butler and smiled. “Sebastian, Ms. Kain, you’re too kind. Your presence is the best gift of all. Please, take a seat.”
His gaze lingered on Noelle’s face for a brief moment. Standing beside Sebastian, she showed not the slightest hint of inferiority. That calm, natural poise was not something an ordinary family could cultivate,
Belinda stepped forward with a smile. “Welcome, both of you. Lucas, you child–you could’ve at least told us you were coming”
Lucas let out a scoff. “I’m coming back to my home. Since when do I need to give advance notice?”
Belinda’s expression instantly turned wounded.”
Brandon’s face darkened. “Lucas!”
Was this brat deliberately coming back today just to cause trouble?
Lucas replied lazily, “I’m not deaf. You don’t need to shout.”
“You-!”
Seeing father and son on the verge of another argument, the corner of Belinda’s lips curled up unconsciously, a trace of satisfaction flashing in her eyes.
Argue. Make a scene. The bigger, the better–let everyone see just how unfilial and useless this stepson of hers was.
She was just about to step in and “mediate,” fanning the flames even higher, when Noelle spoke up.
“Mr. Brandon, he’s blunt by nature, but he does care about you. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have rushed back specially. He just doesn’t know how to say it. He also prepared a gift for you.”
As she spoke, Sebastian’s gaze flicked calmly toward Lucas. He said nothing, but there was steadiness there, along with a hint of disapproval.
The little spark of mischief Lucas had been deliberately stirring up immediately dimmed.
He clicked his tongue, said nothing more, and even the usual carefree swagger on his face faded noticeably.
Reluctantly, Lucas pulled out a palm–sized, extremely simply wrapped dark blue velvet box from his inner pocket and casually held it out to Brandon. His tone was still lazy. “Here. For you.”
