Viola’s face turned pale. Willow, Gresham, and Jasper had already blamed her earlier–now even Elmer was blaming her, too.

How come that ungrateful brat didn’t die in that crash! That would serve him right!

“Elmer! Are you crazy? How can you blame me? What does any of this have to do with me?” Viola finally exploded after bottling it up all night.

“It’s your fault! It’s all your fault!”

“Enough! Your brother is already in this state, and you’re still arguing with him? What kind of sister are you?” Willow snapped.

Viola had never felt so wronged. Tears sprang to her eyes, and she ran out, hand clapped over her mouth.

Noelle heard about Elmer’s amputation.

She wasn’t surprised.

She’d seen his injuries and knew right away his legs were done for.

“Noelle, I heard from Marsh about Elmer losing his legs. You did great!” Serena cackled, shaking with laughter.

“It’s nothing.” Noelle curled her lips. “He only got what he deserved.”

“You’re in a good mood. The Alliance 749’s Medical Department is holding a recruitment interview this afternoon. Want to come by? You can check out the new talent and pick up your herbs. If you don’t want to come, I can have someone send the herbs to you.”

Last time, Noelle made Sebastian some pills, and he was almost out. She planned to make more, so she’d asked Serena to get the ingredients.

Noelle thought for a moment. She did have something she needed to do. “Alright, I’ll stop by this afternoon.”

Sebastian came downstairs, and Noelle hurried to slip her phone into her sleeve before handing him her test. “Sebastian! I finished all my practice tests! Check them for me!”

Sebastian looked at her, took the papers, and flipped through them.

Last time Noelle had scored a nine.

This time, she’d improved.

She got a ten.

Still, it was a good start.

“Mm, you’ve made progress.”

He nodded and marked multiple giant Xs all over the test paper with a red pen.

Gus and the maids peered over curiously, then saw the big 10 and all those giant Xs.

They were speechless.

It hurt their heads just looking at it.

It was more stressful than watching their own grandkids take tests.

“Right? I feel like I’m really getting better!” Noelle was all smiles. “If I keep working hard, I might just ace the SAT!”

Sebastian’s expression didn’t change. His voice stayed calm. “Yes, you have a real shot.”

Watching from the sidelines, Gus and the maids were speechless.

At a café, Felicia tried to comfort Viola.

“Viola, this isn’t your fault. Don’t let it get to you

“Mrs. Kain and the rest are just upset about your brother’s amputation. That’s why they snapped at you. Don’t take it personally.”

Viola’s eyes were red with frustration.

Elmer lost his legs, and now Gresham, Willow–even Elmer himself–blamed her for it. She felt so wronged.

“I’ve been swamped at work–the company’s having trouble. I can’t be around as much, but when things settle, I’ll buy you something nice, okay?”

Viola felt a strange mix of sadness and anxiety. Elmer lost his legs, and Kain Group was in trouble–it was like everything had gone wrong since Noelle left.

“Oh, Viola, I’ve got good news.” Felicia perked up. “This afternoon, the Alliance 749 Medical Department was interviewing doctors. I applied, and I actually got an interview!”

“Felicia, you’ll do great.” Viola was a little jealous, but she forced a smile.

“Alliance 749 Medical Department usually only hires people with master’s or PhDs. I’m just a bachelor’s grad. I only got in through some connections.” Felicia sighed. “I hope it works out. Even if not, it’ll be a good experience to see the place.”

For some reason, all the Alliance 749 herbal shops stopped letting her in. She never offended anyone from the alliance–must have been a misunderstanding.

She figured this interview was a chance to clear it up.

That afternoon, the Medical Department’s interview was held at Alliance 749’s headquarters.

There were 30 candidates, but in the end, only one or two would make the cut.
