Chapter 290 Dumbfounded

Leonidas Lemmington, head of pre–med, sat stiff in his seat, visibly confused. His gaze drifted up to the stage, locking onto the students‘ outfits–designer, no doubt about it.
He knew exactly how thin the budget was. They had just enough to rent basic outfits. These were nowhere near basic. Starlight custom couture? From where?
Still, he kept his expression steady. He forced a laugh and muttered, “The kids really pulled through. Got everything together on their own. Every bit of it.”
Onstage, Eleanor and the rest of the dancers were wrapping up. The final beat struck, and they froze mid–pose. Their shoulders rose and fell with their breathing, sweat clinging to their smiling faces.
As the lights flared back on, Eleanor stepped forward, bold and radiant. The next song kicked off. Their moves came sharp and fast, clean–cut, not a single misstep. The timing was so crisp, it sent a wave of energy across the entire room.
“Yes!”
“That was amazing!”
The crowd burst into cheers. The sound pounded off the walls and refused to fade.
Everyone knew it. The pre–med number had become the highlight of the night.
Noelle’s lips curved into the faintest smile. She was truly glad for them.
But just as the host walked up with the mic to announce the next performance, something unexpected happened.
The host glanced at her card, froze for a breath, then quickly snapped into her usual grin and called out, “One more round of applause for the pre–med team! And now, let’s welcome… Noelle! She’ll be doing a solo dance!”
The moment she finished speaking, the entire auditorium dropped into stunned silence–then exploded.
“Noelle? Which Noelle?!”
“You serious? The one from the forums! The national top scorer!”
“She signed up? That can’t be right.”
“Didn’t the pre–med group just finish? Now she’s going up? Alone?”
“This is insane! I don’t deserve this kind of blessing tonight!”
Eleanor and the girls next to Noelle turned to her in shock. Their eyes were wide.
They hadn’t submitted her name for anything.
Noelle had even said she wasn’t performing.
“What’s going on?” one of her classmates mumbled, brows furrowed.
The host up on stage started sweating. She was clearly rattled, but it was too late to backtrack. Her voice came out shaky, but she

powered through with another, “Please give it up for Noelle!”
Every head in the room turned toward her.

Eleanor grabbed her arm, whispering quickly, “Noelle, what is this? You didn’t sign up! Someone must’ve messed this up. I’ll go straighten it out.”
She started to stand.
Noelle gently held her down.
Even with hundreds of eyes locked on her, her face remained unreadable. She looked at the flustered host, then slowly scanned the faces around the room.
Her voice stayed calm. “Someone wanted to see me on that stage. Fine. I’ll do it.”
Eleanor’s chest tightened. “But you didn’t prepare anything! You’re going up cold!”
Noelle let go of her and stood. She stepped into the aisle.
She didn’t hesitate. She didn’t stall.
As she walked toward the stage, the crowd’s chatter started to fade. Heads swiveled. The whole place quieted. All eyes on her as she reached the steps and stood in the center under the spotlight.
She faced the host. “Can you play something with a clear beat? One that picks up gradually. War drums if you’ve got it.”
Within seconds, a heavy rhythm blasted through the speakers. It was deep and thunderous, like marching drums shaking the floor.
Noelle hadn’t changed. Still that same white tee and jeans.
She pulled her hair up into a neat twist and walked barefoot to the middle of the stage.
The first drum strike hit.
A sharp, commanding sound snapped through the air.
Noelle launched into motion. No grace. No fluff. Just raw force and speed.
She moved like a blade. Her arms sliced, her legs snapped out like whips. Every move landed perfectly with the beat.
It didn’t feel like a dance. It felt like combat.
It was a seamless collision of form and force. Her body became the music.
She flipped through the air, spun into a clean tornado kick, and landed in absolute silence. Steady. Controlled.
She twirled again. Her limbs moved fast, sharp, and smooth. Her shirt twisted with her like a flag in the wind.
