Sebastian’s voice came low and steady on the other end. It was quieter than usual. Like the calm before a storm. “You still on campus?”
Noelle answered, “Yeah, I’m by the auditorium. It’s nothing serious. Just a minor-”
“Wait for me,” he cut in, tone absolute. “I’m coming now.”
The line went dead.
Noelle stared at the screen for a second.
So much for staying under the radar.
In the car, Sebastian had just ended the call when Lucas turned from the driver’s seat.
“She’s still there?”
Sebastian gave a small nod. “She is.”
Lucas didn’t even blink. He slammed his foot down.
The tires tore across the pavement, loud and sharp, as the car launched forward.
Primo had originally been driving, but the moment Lucas heard something had happened to Noelle, he kicked him out. Said he drove like a grandpa.
Now Lucas sat locked in. Jaw clenched. Lips pressed flat. The usual spark in his eyes was gone.
The speedometer shot up. The car swerved through traffic like it owned the road. Horns blasted. Voices shouted. Neither of them flinched.
Back at Kingstowne University, the tension inside the hall refused to settle.
Viola stood there, watching the aftermath spiral out of control, and for the first time, a flicker of guilt crept in.
Seriously?
Noelle was perfectly fine. Why was everyone acting like she almost died?
As she turned, her eyes caught someone unexpected.
Alina.
She walked with sharp precision in a sleek black pantsuit. Her cropped hair moved slightly with the breeze, and her face looked like it was seconds from breaking into fury.
Next to her was a tall woman in a black dress. Long hair flowed down her back. Viola recognized her immediately. Yvette. Alina’s
best friend.

Viola’s eyes widened. Alina? Here?
Alina saw her, too. Her steps slowed just barely. Her face didn’t shift an inch.
Viola clenched her jaw, then forced a smile and stepped forward. “Hey, Alina. You’re here too? I heard-”
The sharp crack of a slap rang through the air.
Viola’s words died in her throat.
Her head whipped to the side. A bright red mark bloomed across her cheek.
She clutched her face, eyes huge. “What the hell?! You hit me!”

Alina let her hand fall calmly back to her side. Her gaze didn’t waver. She looked down at Viola like she wasn’t worth the dirt on her shoes. “I don’t know what part you played in this disaster,” she said, voice clipped and icy. “But if I find out you had anything to do with it, even for a second, I won’t let it slide.”
She stepped in closer. Her voice dropped to a whisper, cold and unforgiving. “You’ll wish
you
hadn’t.”
Then she walked straight past without a glance. Yvette followed without a word.
Yvette had rushed over the second her cousin’s text came in about Noelle. But watching Alina now, she was genuinely taken aback.
Alina looked shaken.
She’d just slapped her own sister because of Noelle. That was no small thing.
They reached the makeshift waiting area behind the auditorium, where the pre–med students had gathered. Everyone was huddled around Noelle, voices overlapping in a mess of concern.
Noelle sat in a chair, calm but clearly drained. She gave a gentle smile as she tried to reassure them. “I’m really fine. I promise. You don’t have to worry.”
“Noey.” Alina’s voice cut through the crowd.
Everyone instinctively shifted aside.
Noelle looked up, surprised. “Alina? Yvette? What are you doing here?”
Alina walked right up and looked her over from head to toe. She didn’t blink. Once she confirmed Noelle was physically okay, her shoulders dropped just slightly, though her brows stayed drawn. “I saw the video. Are you hurt? Did anything hit you? That must’ve scared you half to death.”
Her worry was written all over her face.
Noelle shook her head, moved. “No, I dodged it in time. You didn’t have to rush over. I swear I’m okay.”
