Ethan’s tone was way too casual, with a hint of smugness. Theodore shot him a glare but didn’t say a word, and Sebastian only glanced at him before falling silent as well.

Noelle asked Gus to add another set of utensils, and the four of them ended up just sitting there.

The atmosphere was strange, tense, and oddly delicate.

Gus and the others stood behind them, fully alert.

They were genuinely worried that halfway through the meal, Ethan might suddenly go for Sebastian’s throat.

Olivia nodded in satisfaction as well. At least he’s not a complete idiot. He knows how to fight for himself.

“So? Did things blow up? Do we need to send people over?”

‘What’s going on in there?”

‘The situation is … um… pretty good,” the man swallowed hard. “After Mr. Ethan arrived, he just sat down and ate with them. It even seemed kind of harmonious. They ate for over an hour.”

Instead of bringing Theodore back, he sat there having dinner with Sebastian? Don’t the Menzies feed him well enough that he has to go beg for a meal there?

Olivia’s expression darkened too. “Ethan really is too soft–hearted. He probably still thinks of Sebastian as family. But he doesn’t care about the Menzies. We do. He may not want that power, but we need it. We can’t let it fall into Sebastian’s hands. Honey, we have to strike first.”

“What do you want to do?” Royce asked quietly, his gaze heavy.

After dinner.

Theodore and Ethan returned to the Menzie Estate.

Noelle glanced at Sebastian. He hadn’t smiled much all night, his expression calm and cool as always, but she could tell he was happy.

It had been a long time since he’d eaten with family like that. He must have been over the moon.

She’d originally planned to bring up Theodore’s birthday party at the table, but in the end, she swallowed the words.

Some rifts couldn’t be fixed overnight. Maybe this was already good enough.

“Honey, were you happy today?”

Noelle looked at him, eyes bright with a smile.

Sebastian answered gently, “As long as you’re here, I’m happy.”

“Smooth talker.” Noelle shot him a playful look, her eyes still smiling. “But I like hearing it.” She looped her arms around his neck and tilted her face up. “Carry me to the bedroom.”

The tenderness in Sebastian’s eyes nearly overflowed. He bent down and lifted her securely into his arms, heading for the stairs.

Just then, the phone Noelle had left on the couch rang. The screen showed an unfamiliar number.

Sebastian paused slightly. Noelle gestured for him to wait, stretched out to grab the phone, and answered. “Hello?”

“Noey! It’s me!” Mary’s anxious voice came through, sounding hurt. “You blocked me? I had to use a new number to call you…”

The smile faded from Noelle’s face. Her tone stayed flat. “I see.”

Before Mary could react, Noelle hung up cleanly and promptly blocked the new number as well.

“Let’s go.”

She tossed the phone back onto the couch and wrapped her arms around Sebastian’s neck again.
