Her heartbeat quickened. She immediately put on a gentle, well–practiced smile and walked over with graceful steps.

“Mr. Jonathan, hello. I’m Claire Flynn. Sorry to keep you waiting,” she said softly, her posture elegant.

Jonathan set the magazine aside, stood up, and shook her hand politely. “Ms. Flynn, hello. Please, have a seat. I just arrived as well.”

They sat down and exchanged a few pleasantries.

Claire had clearly done her homework. Her words and manners showed refinement, and she knew exactly when to offer her own views and when to soften them with warmth and consideration.

Without seeming deliberate, she steered the conversation toward the Guzman family, expressed sincere respect for the elders, and finally, very naturally, mentioned Noelle.

“…I heard that you recently found your younger sister. That’s truly wonderful news,” Claire said with a smile. “I prepared a small gift for her. I wasn’t sure what she likes, so I picked a limited–edition jewelry set I thought she might like. I hope she won’t find it presumptuous.”

As she spoke, she signaled her assistant to place a beautifully wrapped gift box on the table.

Jonathan glanced at the box. His expression didn’t change as he said calmly, “Ms. Flynn, that’s thoughtful of you, but there’s really no need for gifts.”

“It’s just a small token of goodwill,” Claire replied smoothly, her smile unwavering.

They chatted for a while longer, and the atmosphere remained pleasant.

Claire felt secretly pleased. From her perspective, Jonathan seemed to have a good impression of her.

Just then, the private room door opened, and Noelle walked in.

Claire looked up instinctively. When she saw Noelle, her smile faltered for a split second, a flash of confusion crossing her eyes.

This must be the sister Jonathan had mentioned.

Bringing his sister along to a blind date–clearly, her place in his heart was significant. Claire immediately brightened her smile, stood up, and greeted her warmly.

“This must be Mr. Jonathan’s sister, right? Hello, I’m Claire Flynn.”

Noelle nodded slightly, her tone calm. “Hello. I’m Noelle Kain.”

It sounded far too familiar.

Way too familiar.

However, she couldn’t place it immediately.

If she’d had a moment longer, she might have realized this was the very Noelle that Hailey always cursed about–but time pressed, and she couldn’t connect the dots. She suppressed the unease and smiled even more brightly.

“So you’re Ms. Kain. I’ve heard so much about you–it’s truly a pleasure to finally meet you. I was just telling Mr. Jonathan that I prepared a small welcome gift for you. I hope you’ll like it.”

Noelle glanced briefly at the gift box, then at Jonathan, and said lightly, “You’re too kind, Ms. Flynn. I’m just here to accompany Jonathan. There’s really no need for gifts.”

Claire hit a wall. A flicker of displeasure rose inside her, but none of it showed on her face. She remained warm and enthusiastic, inviting Noelle to sit and trying to draw her into the conversation to build familiarity.

Noelle responded a few times politely, then fell silent, sitting quietly beside Jonathan, occasionally taking a bite of food while listening to them talk.

Jonathan observed Claire closely. He could see the cleverness behind her eyes. It wasn’t extraordinary, but it was serviceable. If she were to be Mrs. Guzman, she needed to know when to push and when to step back–and Claire, at the very least, met that

standard.

“Does Ms. Flynn have time this coming weekend to visit the Guzman residence?”

“I do,” Claire replied at once, joy flashing through her eyes.

Leaving the restaurant, they each got into their cars.

In the car, Sebastian called to ask how it went.

“How was it? That Ms. Flynn,” his voice came through the phone.

Noelle leaned back in her seat and thought for a moment. “She’s alright. Very socially adept, gentle, well–mannered. She even prepared gifts–it’s clear she put in a lot of effort.”

She paused, then added, “But… she seems quite calculating. A bit deliberate. Overall, though, as a marriage alliance candidate, if Jonathan thinks she’s suitable, I don’t have strong objections. He invited her to the house next weekend.”

Sebastian chuckled softly on the other end. “Sounds like Ms. Flynn really is something. Then, this weekend, I’ll join you at the Guzman Residence, and let’s take a good look.”
