Chapter 386 The Truth Almost

Alina stared at Viola, her chest tight with anger and helplessness.

The moment she stepped out of the villa, the night wind hit her, and only then did she realize her back was soaked through with cold sweat.

She took out her phone. On the screen was a message from Angus.

“What did your mother go out to do? Anything unusual?”

Her fingers trembled as she typed a reply, deleted it, typed again–over and over–until she finally sent just two words.

“All good.”

Soon, it was the weekend.

The Guzman Residence was buzzing that day.

Because Jonathan’s blind date was coming, Angus, the three uncles, the seven cousins, as well as Alina and Mary, were all present.

The living room was filled with fresh flowers and exquisitely arranged tea and desserts.

Noelle and Sebastian arrived early as well.

“Honey, don’t you think you’re acting a little strange? Why do I feel like you’re way too excited?”

Sebastian was never one to enjoy spectacle, yet he seemed unusually invested in the Flynn sisters.

Sebastian smiled faintly, a cold glint flashing through his eyes as he lowered his voice. “You’ll find out soon enough.”

Noelle still didn’t quite understand, but since Sebastian clearly didn’t want to explain, she didn’t press.

Her gaze drifted casually around the room before pausing on Mary.

Something about Mary felt off today.

She was visibly restless, her eyes unconsciously flicking toward Alina, then darting away guiltily whenever their gazes nearly met.

When she noticed Noelle looking at her, Mary’s expression grew even more complicated. She seemed like she wanted to say something, but swallowed it back down.

“Uh… Noelle… have some fruit,” she said stiffly.

The tone sounded like she was talking to a distant relative’s child.

Nothing like the warmth she used to show Noelle.

But Noelle did.

Just then, a servant announced, “Claire and her younger sisters have arrived.”

Jonathan and the others stood up.

Noelle was about to go over and take a look as well.

“Noelle, I need to talk to you,” Alina said, gently pulling her back.

“Oh.”

Noelle nodded and followed her. She wanted to hear what Alina had to say anyway–about the incident from years ago. She had already given Alina countless chances to speak up.

Watching them head outside together, Mary’s heart jumped straight into her throat.

Why was Alina taking Noelle out at a time like this?

Was she going to talk about hiding Viola?

“The Flynn family’s eldest daughter is already here. Whatever it is, talk later,” Mary hurriedly stepped forward to stop them, lowering her voice.

Noelle calmly pulled her hand back, avoiding Mary’s touch. “Grandpa and the others are here. It’s fine if we step out for a bit.”

With that, she walked out with Alina.

The three Flynn sisters entered the house, dressed to the nines.

Claire led the way, her smile gentle and composed as she greeted the Guzman elders one by one.

Veronica and Hailey followed behind, both doing their best to look sweet and obedient.

Hailey’s eyes darted around, searching for the legendary Ms. Charlotte–but Noelle had already been pulled into the garden by Alina, so she didn’t spot her.

Claire chatted with Angus, Jonathan, and the others. On the surface, the atmosphere seemed pleasant.

Finding it boring and drawn by the scenery outside, Hailey soon wandered off into the sprawling garden with a servant leading the

way.

Meanwhile, in a secluded corner of the garden.

Noelle looked at Alina, who seemed hesitant to speak. “Did you want to talk to me about something?”

Alina’s lips parted, then closed again. Looking into Noelle’s clear, calm eyes, she thought of Viola’s threats, thought of the secret buried deep in her heart. A thousand words crowded her throat, yet not a single one came out.

Guilt, struggle, fear–emotions churned violently in her eyes.

Noelle watched her quietly. “Is it really that hard to say? Then, let me tell you a story first.

“Alina!”

Mary suddenly appeared, grabbing Alina’s arm, her face pale and her voice urgent. “Come with me. I need to ask you something!”

Without giving her a choice, Mary dragged Alina away, leaving Noelle standing alone, her brows knitting slightly.
