Chapter 466 Stubborn People
Noelle offered a small smile but didn’t say a word.
She knew well the quiet tension between Theodore and Sebastian. The old man still carried it like an old wound.

The truth of what happened years ago had long since blurred, but after so much time, neither grandfather nor grandson was willing to be the first to give in.
This year, for his birthday, Noelle was determined to bring Sebastian with her. Even if he didn’t say a single word, just his presence would be enough.
Lucas felt the same way.
He wasn’t blood, but watching the two of them remain at odds always left him unsettled.
As they browsed the racks, Noelle picked up a navy blue jacket. She held it up to the light, her fingers brushing the fabric. “What about this one? It feels really nice.”
Lucas reached over, ran his hand along the sleeve, and nodded. “Yeah, this one’s solid. The old man would look good in it.”
Noelle dropped it in their basket and reached for a cashmere scarf to compare.
Neither noticed the figure who’d stopped behind a rack a few feet away, his arms loaded with shopping bags.
It was Geoffrey Limden, the Menzies‘ loyal butler.
He’d come to buy supplies for the birthday banquet, and as he wandered to this floor, he spotted two familiar figures in the distance–Lucas and Noelle.
Geoffrey almost walked over to greet them, but then hesitated. He ducked behind a row of clothes, peeking through the gaps.
Noelle was holding a dark gray jacket up to Lucas, saying something he couldn’t hear. Lucas just stood there, lazy as ever, sometimes nodding, sometimes shaking his head.
Were they… picking out a gift for Theodore?
Theodore’s
A spark lit Geoffrey’s eyes. He reached for his phone, thumb hovering over Theodore’s number.
He almost dialed, then stopped short.
No, he couldn’t call.
If he did, he’d give away that he was spying.
Theodore would act tough and it’d all be awkward.
Geoffrey switched to the camera, snapped a quick photo of Noelle holding the navy jacket, then stepped back, found a more hidden spot, and sent it off.
“Sir, guess who I just saw at the mall?”
A few seconds later, Theodore called. Geoffrey answered, keeping his voice tow, “Sir?”

“Who? Who did you see?” Theodore’s voice was gruff, but there was a tremor of eagerness beneath it. “Let me see the photo–1 is that? The picture’s so blurry, I can’t see anything with these old eyes!”
Geoffrey held back a laugh. “It’s Mrs. Menzie and Mr. Lucas. They’re picking out a birthday present for you. She’s comparing jac taking it really seriously.”
There was a pause.
“Hmph.” Theodore let out a sharp breath. “Who needs their gifts? I don’t need more clothes.”
Geoffrey was used to his stubbornness. He played along, “Of course, sir, you don’t need anything. Should I go over and tell ther stop shopping?”
The old man cleared his throat, his voice softening. “Well… if they already picked something, let them be. No use wasting the tr Just keep an eye out, see what they choose.”
Geoffrey could hardly keep from smiling. He peeked again. “Mrs. Menzie’s got a navy jacket that looks nice, and a scarf. Mr. Luca trying on a gray one.”
“Navy…” Theodore muttered, then raised his voice. “Alright, I got it. Go do your shopping. Don’t let them see you.”
“Of course, sir.”
Geoffrey hung up and lingered in his hiding spot, heart warming at the sight of Noelle and Lucas picking gifts with such care.
He knew the old man would never admit it, but he would be secretly happy.
For years, Theodore had insisted he didn’t care, but deep down, all he wanted was for his grandson to visit.
