Of course, he still owned other properties. But he wanted to be here. So he’d packed his things and shown up on their doorstep, suitcase in hand.
Sebastian watched him in silence, expression unreadable.
Lucas shifted in his seat, rubbing his nose, suddenly self–conscious under Sebastian’s gaze. “What? Don’t look at me like that. It’s weird. If Noey saw you, she’d get jealous.”
Noelle rolled her eyes, but couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at her lips.
Sebastian sat beside Lucas on the couch.
Neither of them said a word. They just sat there, side by side, gazing at the sunlight spilling through the window.
After a long silence, Sebastian finally spoke, his voice roughened by emotion. “Thank you.”
Kingstowne was in an uproar. Everyone was treating him like a walking disaster, keeping their distance. Only Lucas stayed, refusing to abandon him.
The Steeles must have put Lucas through hell.
Lucas didn’t even look up. “Don’t mention it. Don’t get all sentimental on me.”
Just then, Noelle’s phone rang.
She glanced at the screen, then answered quickly. “Serena?”
Serena’s voice came fast and urgent. “Noey, I’ve found them. Westside, abandoned chemical plant. Get here, now.”
Noelle’s heart jolted. “We’ll be right there.”
She turned to Sebastian and Lucas. “They’ve been found. Serena’s at the old chemical plant on the west side.”
Sebastian was on his feet before she’d finished, striding for the door.
Lucas jumped up, close behind.
They piled into the car and sped through the city, a blur of adrenaline and hope.
At the abandoned chemical plant on westside, the car screeched to a halt amid a field of ruins.
They jumped out, scanning the area.
Not far off, a black SUV stood parked. By it was a tall woman in a leather jacket, her ponytail high and swinging, a lollipop between
her teeth.
It was Serena.
Noelle hurried over. “Where are they?”

Serena turned, glancing at Sebastian and Lucas–both tense, urgent. Her expression was conflicted.
“They got away.”

Lucas stared, incredulous. “You said you’d found them!”
Serena bit through her lollipop with a crack, frustration in her voice. “I did. But they were ready. There was more than one group. As soon as I showed up, they realized and split three ways. I chased them as far as I could, but lost them.”
She looked at Noelle, her voice softer. “Sorry, Noey.”
Noelle shook her head and glanced at Sebastian.
Sebastian stood frozen, staring at the broken concrete and twisted metal.
The setting sun cast his shadow long and dark. His face was impossible to read.
Lucas hesitated, wanting to say something, but swallowed the words.
Serena tossed away the lollipop stick. “But I saw Theodore and Ethan.”
Sebastian’s head snapped up.
“Alive,” Serena said. “Both of them. Theodore was in good spirits–he was actually swearing at his captors. Ethan’s hurt, but it’s not life–threatening.”
Sebastian’s eyes turned red, raw with relief.
Noelle crossed to him and took his hand in hers.
His fingers were ice–cold, trembling.
“As long as they’re alive, we’ll find them,” she whispered.
Sebastian didn’t speak. He just squeezed her hand, holding on as if it was the only thing keeping him afloat.
ucas joined them, clapping a hand on Sebastian’s shoulder. “Yeah. If they’re alive, there’s hope. We’ll find them, no matter how long it takes.”
Sebastian nodded, silent, but he never let go of Noelle’s hand.
