Chapter 532 The Inspectors Arrive

Sidney looked at Lara’s wrist, then at Noelle, and his eyes turned red too.

“You really are a miracle doctor…” His voice was hoarse. “Ms. Kain, you saved both me and my wife. We… we really don’t know how to thank you.”

“No need.” Noelle was already getting a headache from all the thanks. She quickly stood up and brushed the dust off her clothes. “You still need two more days of treatment. Start using the medicine first.”

The next day, Noelle gave Lara another round of needle therapy as usual.

Camille was squatting nearby watching, and she still could not stop talking.

“Noelle, what’s it like outside?” Camille asked curiously, propping up her chin.

“There are tall buildings,” Noelle said while placing the needle, “taller than any tree on the island. So tall they look like they could touch the clouds.”

Camille tilted her head back and looked at the white clouds drifting across the sky, her mouth falling open into an O.

“There are also cars,” Noelle continued. “They have four wheels. They don’t need oxen to pull them. They can run on their own, faster than the fastest horse.”

“They can run without oxen pulling them?!” Camille’s mouth would not close. “Then… then what do they eat?”

“They don’t eat. They drink oil.”

Camille looked even more confused. “Isn’t oil for cooking? Cars drink oil too?”

Lucas let out a laugh beside them.

Even Noelle’s lips curved slightly.

Camille rested her chin in her hands, imagining cars that ran without oxen, imagining buildings taller than trees, imagining a world. filled with things she had never seen before. Her eyes shone like two little stars.

Beside her, the little boy sat quietly, saying nothing. But his eyes, usually so cold and uninterested in everything, were slightly brighter now.

Those tall buildings. Those cars. That huge, huge world.

He had never heard of any of it.

“Then Noelle is one of the nice ones!” Camille said with a grin. Then she blinked. “Oh right, Noelle, Daddy and Mommy said you’re looking for your husband! Is your husband mean too?”

Noelle’s hand paused for a second while placing the needle. Then she let out a soft laugh. “My husband was a very, very gentle

man.”

When she mentioned Sebastian, her eyes seemed to soften. “He was also the person in the whole world who treated me best. But he was naughty. He did something that made me unhappy. So when I see him, I’m going to beat him up.”

Thinking of how Sebastian left without saying goodbye, her eyes turned cold again. She almost gritted her teeth as she spoke.

Camille nodded hard. “Yes! Beat him up! If he’s naughty, spank him!”

Everyone couldn’t help laughing at her words.

Just as the cheerful mood filled the room-

“Something happened!” he shouted the second he came in. His voice was high with panic. “A bunch of inspectors are here! They said some important person escaped onto the island, and now they’re searching house by house!”

Noelle’s hand froze in the middle of Lara’s treatment, and Lara’s face went pale too.

Camille was so scared that she hid behind Noelle, clutching the hem of her shirt tightly.

Sidney’s face was white as paper. “They’ve already searched the front of the village. They’ll be here any minute!”

He looked at Noelle and the others, his lips trembling. “You don’t have registration. If they find you…”
