Adrian rested his hand against his chin and asked, “A phoenix?”

Then he shook his head fast.

“Phoenixes only appear in old wall paintings. I grew up without seeing one, and I barely heard any stories about them.

“Besides, if it were really a phoenix, that kind of holy shifter, how could it look like that?”

Annelise smiled and said, “You are judging with bias.”

“What bias? I am being serious. Phoenixes are lucky beasts. They would never eat a small bunny like me!”

The fire did not touch Annelise or Adrian. It burned him instead.

He screamed again as the heat scorched his arm

Flames crawled up his sleeve, and his hand caught fire. Annelise rushed over, scooped up pile of snow, and pressed it onto his burning sleeve.

The flames weakened for a moment, then surgel back up.

The heat was intense and melted the snow into water.

“Water cannot put it out?”

This was the first time Annelise had ever seen something like this.

The man’s upper body soon became wrapped in flames. Annelise panicked and acted on

instinct.

She decided to suppress it with spirit energy.

She pushed Adrian and said, “Get out now! I am scared the fire will burn your fur. Go outside and hide!”
