Chapter 116 Who Are You Calling a Chicken?
“But no luck so far…”
“What? Must it be the chief? Can’t it be me?” another starry-eyed female chimed in.
“Oh, don’t bother. I already tried. It won’t work. He’s probably a high-level savage beast- ordinary females can’t form a bond with him. And he hasn’t gone berserk, so he’s likely still young. Besides, he said he already visited several tribes along the way, and he always goes straight to the chief.”
“Oh yeah. A shifter who can create fire… only a chief would be strong enough to bond with someone like that. But the chiefs he found on his way couldn’t do it?”
“Nope. Some were avians, and some were herbivores. But I think our chief can. We’re a mixed tribe. The chief’s mother and father were both tigers. What kind of creature can a tiger not bond with?”
This was exactly the reaction Annelise wanted.
Adrian was beside her, chewing noisily on wild greens. Suddenly, he said, “Something just hit
me.”
“What?”
“Tigers not being able to bond with Rokky or Snowball makes perfect sense. Those two are obviously carnivores. Based on what you and the chief’s father said, her deterioration means she can’t bond with carnivores. Totally normal. But… what if Riven is some low-tier bird? Tigers eat chickens…”
Annelise quirked a brow. “A natural enemy?”
It can’t be that coincidental, right? she thought.
But the more she considered it, the more irritated she became. She and the High Priest had indeed concluded yesterday that Riven was most likely an avian shifter.
And Riven refuses to admit anything… What if he really is a fire-spitting turkey? Wouldn
delivering him straight into a tiger’s jaws?!
“I swear, spending time with you is making me dumber. Go home.” She waved Ad off and slipped off the side path.
“What about you, Ms. Crawford?” he asked.
“I’m sneaking over for a look.”

Annelise followed the side trail, searching as she walked.
That fiery red hair made Riven stand out in the tribe, so he wasn’t hard to find. In a short while, she spotted him lounging on a pile of hay, sunning himself, surrounded by a crowd of females.
Normally, females were the ones being swarmed by males. But Riven-between his hair color and the bizarre way he talked-was a novelty. So the females clustered around him. asking questions like he was some shiny new to
“Hey, what’s your name? Can you tell us? Also, how long are you staying in our tribe?”
Wow, your skin looks amazing. How old are you?”
Riven gave his name honestly but refused to state his age, only saying he was still young
As for how long I’ll stay, that depends entirely on when your chief has time, and whether she can bond with me. If your chief turns out to be as weak as those herbivore chiefs before her. then I’ll just be disappointed and move on to the next tribe.”
“No, no, no—our chief is a tiger shifter. She’ll definitely be able to bond with you.”
From where she stood, Annelise could tell most females in the tribe still respected the chief.
After all, the chief had protected the tribe with her mates for years, and life wasn’t as impoverished as before now. Compared with tbes that literally struggled to eat, most here believed their chief was competent. Anyone who lacked winter clothing cold always beg the chief for crude beast-hide to get through the season.
Even with what Clara did, most shifters simply thought that Clara alone was to be accused of. They didn’t question anything beyond that-it wasn’t their habit. To them, the chief remained a stern but protective figure.
Just then, Riven began his own questioning. “You’ve all asked me so many things turn. That Annelise in your tribe-does she really hit her mates all the time?”
it’s my
Huh? Annelise quirked a brow. He’s asking about e?
“That was before,” a female replied. “She’s pretty decent now. My mate wasn taken away for the sacrificial rituals, all thanks to Annelise.”
