Chapter 119 For Life-No, Several Lives
Snowball nodded. “I couldn’t stop in time that time I chased prey all the way to the cliff and went straight over the edge-unforgettable, really. After I was patched up, my body was never the same again. My mom told me not to hunt anymore. We have enough food at home, so that’s that.”
The chief stepped toward Snowball, closing the distance one slow step at a time. “If only someone had been nearby to give you a hand back then. If I’d been there, I wouldn’t have cared about the situation-I would’ve rushed in and yanked you back.”
Snowball only showed a helpless expression. “I chased it all the way to the edge. There wasn’t anyone around. I checked the scent-no one had been there. Guess I was just unlucky. Or maybe that sheep was either a genius or an idiot running straight toward a cliff in a panic.”
The chief finally reached out and patted Snowball’s shoulder. “Alright, I should head back and deal with the fire-that shaman won’t let it go. If you see that red-haired male shifter again, let him know I’m free tonight.”
Snowball nodded.
When the chief was far enough away that even Riven couldn’t hear anything, Snowball leaned forward and peeked around. “Annelise, you can come out now.”
He took one glance at the red-haired man being propped up, then another at Annelise, and couldn’t resist teasing, “You’ve got a soft spot for red, huh, Annelise?”
Annelise cut him off immediately. “Bullsh*t. I don’t like him. I can’t stand him right now! Completely useless-nothing but trouble. Compared to Hudson, he doesn’t measure up at all.”
However, Snowball didn’t buy it. Because…
His gaze dropped-and he saw Annelise’s hand still wrapped around Riven’s waist.
Annelise let go so fast it was almost comical, letting Riven brace himself against a pile of grass instead. “Don’t read into it. The space was too small just now, and this guy suddenly said his legs went weak and he couldn’t move. I dragged him over so we could hide. Otherwise, my whole plan would’ve gone up in smoke, and for what?”
She sounded genuinely irritated, but Snowball still didn’t quite believe her.
This tribe was full of white-furred wolves and fakes-white was considered the norm. Yet his dear “sister” insisted on liking everything except that.
Annelise grabbed onto the nearest topic so he wouldn’t keep pushing. “I told you not to come

out. Since you came anyway, you really thought this through?”
Snowball didn’t speak, only nodded once. “I did
Annelise pursed her lips. That answer was way to quick. It’s just like when we were still back in that world-me holding a bag of dog treats while Snowball wagged his tail nonstop trying to get one. And once he got what he wanted, every promise out of his mouth was fake anyway.
So she emphasized again, “In that case, you’ll be my little brother, and I’m your sister. For life -no, several lives.”
Snowball nodded again.
Too obedient… hmm… Annelise checked his pulse and said, “You’re thinner, but your heart isn’t acting up anymore.”
“Of course. I’m not trying to leave you for half a year or more. I’ve been taking care of myself. I’ve just been sleeping a lot and eating less these days. Once I get my energy back, I’ll
eat more.”
At that, Snowball thought, Even if Annelise won’t accept me right now, that’s fine. I can wait. No rush. I should keep an eye on that new mate candidate of hers first. Make sure this hopeless flirt doesn’t meet any more potential suitors.
Thinking so, he lifted his head and flashed Annelise a flattering smile.
Only then did Annelise realize that Riven-who usually flew off the handle at the slightest provocation-had been silent for a long time. She elbowed him lightly in the chest. “Hey, say something. You were arguing with me just a minute ago.”
Riven blinked as if finally returning to himself.”…”
His voice came out hoarse. He coughed, cleared his throat, and then tried to regain his usual swagger, planting a hand on his hip. “I have zero interest in a young female who’s nearly ten years younger than me! I like mature, steady women.”
Annelise shrugged at Snowball. “See? Told you.”
Then she stiffened her expression. “Didn’t think you’re into older women. Well, w meet our chief, don’t be smitten with her. She’s in her fifties. Sounds exactly lik
Riven nearly choked. He held it in and held it in-until he finally exploded.
“Get lost!”
Then he marched straight toward the center of the tribe, where the chief lived.
