orked. If it didn’t, it didn’t.
“Alright,” she said. “Let’s go. Carry the tree home. You can fix the house today. You should’ve told me earlier–you’re perfect for heavy lifting. Once we’re back, I’ll bite your neck, and we’ll bond again.”
Adrian didn’t move. Instead, holding back his excitement, he lowered his head and whispered, “You really don’t think I’m strange? I used to be a decorative rabbit shifter. Now I can lift all this. Doesn’t that… disappoint you?”
Annelise scratched her head. “Huh? Oh, you mean because you eat a lot? Don’t worry. I found a type of wild greens that grows great in the yard. We can harvest some from home and some outside. One basket a day should keep you fed.”
Adrian’s head snapped up.
Even eating a ton wasn’t a problem?
His eyes and nose were flushed pink–pitiful and adorable.
So he doubled down, wanting reassurance. “Then let’s bond right here. If we wait until we’re home, what if you change your mind?”
He turned around, raised the tree over his head again, and exposed the back of his neck.
His cotton–ball tail shook wildly, giving away exactly how thrilled he was.
Annelise sighed. She really had lost to him.

Chapter 25 The Strong Bunny
She walked over and bit down on the back of his neck.
Rabbit shifter skin really was the softest.
Adrian shuddered and let out a muffled whine. “Is it… done?”
“Hold on. I’m channeling the spirit energy.”

Her words came out mushy because her teeth were still in his skin, which only made Adrian tremble harder.
“Ms. Crawford… if you don’t hurry, I’m gonna lose my strength. I’m dropping this tree. My back’s giving out… my arms… my legs…”
Why didn’t other shifters react like this when she bonded with them?
But since she didn’t want to die under a falling tree, she quickly pushed the spirit energy into him and let go.
Adrian set the tree aside and leaned against a nearby rock, exhaling hard.
His cheeks were flushed; sweat dotted his forehead.
Annelise patted his shoulder. “Seriously? You couldn’t just put the tree down first?”
“Ay–I got too excited and forgot.”
“Fine. But here, you get to be yourself. You eat a lot, you’re strong–so fix the house when it needs fixing, dig wild greens when it’s time to dig wild greens. Don’t hide who you are. You’re you. Just you.”
She turned to Rokky and Hudson as well.
“And that goes for you two, too. Rokky, be who you are. Who you are is a gift from the heavens.”
