Annelise smiled at Hudson. “Your red fur looks amazing in the snow. You stand out the most- unlike those white foxes, who just blend in.”
Hudson beamed at her words, clearly pleased.
Rokky kept his head down, silent.
This time, as they returned, Adrian carried an entire tree on his shoulders. It was impossible for anyone not to notice.
Whispers spread through the tribe.
“Look at that rabbit shifter! No wonder he eats so much-he’s ridiculously strong. Do you think the female in our tribe abandoned him because she couldn’t afford to keep him? Would she regret her decision if she saw this?”
“Are you only paying attention to that? Didn’t you see the live chickens and ducks in the fox’s basket? Tsk, Annelise has had the hardest life in our tribe, and now she’s richer than anyone else.”
“And that tharok shifter didn’t attack her or any of her mates…”
Clara overheard everything. Her expression darkened. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides.
Back at home, Annelise first transplanted the tree, then started hydroponically growing wild
greens.
Night came quickly.
Hudson was supposed to sleep beside her, but the rabbit was stubborn. “I’m your mate now too. Let me take a turn tonight.”
There was longing in Hudson’s eyes. The matriarch had promised him today, after all.
Still, he didn’t like competing. Even when he desperately wanted to mate with her, he restrained himself. He didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.

Annelise scratched her head. “Technically, I did promise little fox tonight. Bunny, you have to wait for your turn.”
Her house wasn’t spacious yet. Once the third room was finished, one room could accommodate two people. For now, they made do.
Adrian, however, deployed his secret weapon: his twitching rabbit tail.
“Bad… Ah, no, Ms. Crawford-the adorable matriarch-shouldn’t you hold this cute rabbit tail while you sleep? Haven’t you always wanted to touch it?”
The tail wiggled again and again.
Annelise felt her control slipping.
Hudson spoke up, calm. “Then why don’t we both sleep with the matriarch?”
Adrian’s eyes lit up.
“Sure!”
Annelise didn’t mind. She imagined she was sleeping with a plush lop-eared rabbit on one side, a plush little fox on the other.
“Fine. Hudson has no objections, so I don’t either.”
Hudson quickly added, “Ms. Crawford, I don’t mind at all. Being by your side is enough.”
Annelise yawned and turned into the room, unaware that Hudson’s fox ears drooped slightly.
When Rokky came, he didn’t compete for affection. However, this rabbit knew exactly how to vie for attention.
Late at night, Annelise slept deeply. She kicked the blankets off, lying between two warm bodies.
A rabbit’s body temperature was around 100-102°F, and foxes, being canines, ran about the
same.
So no matter how she twisted or turned, she would never be cold.
But Adrian couldn’t sleep. He pawed at Hudson.
“Hey, are you asleep?”
“Almost. Shh… don’t wake Ms. Crawford.”

“I mean… she didn’t mate with me.”

Hudson frowned. “It’s normal. Ms. Crawford hasn’t mated with me either. I thought maybe she’d mate with Rokky, but I asked him-she hasn’t. In other words, she hasn’t mated with any of us.”
Adrian froze, stunned. “Wait… what? Then… if she didn’t do anything to you, why were you in pain?”
Hudson didn’t answer. He only thought, you will be too.
“She used to hit us after we bonded. At that time, she never mated with us. She said hitting felt pleasurable enough, so mating wasn’t necessary.”
“But… she doesn’t hit anymore.”
“I don’t know. And besides, without her permission, who would dare mate with her? I’m scared she’d
go back to that version of herself-the one who beat anyone who crossed her. That’s why I wouldn’t even dare mention it.”
Adrian fell into thought. “Yeah… if she turns back into that version of herself-the one who used to hit people-that would be a disaster.”
Soon, he made a low sound of surprise. His eyes widened as he looked down, pointing at the still-sleeping Annelise.
“Hey… She’s pinching my tail… while asleep!”
He held his chest, trying to steady himself. “And… And she’s even rubbing it. Does she know how intense this is for shifters? Pinching a tail like this… it’s a mating signal…”
Hudson nodded. “She did the same to me once. Held my tail and cuddled while sleeping. You should be glad yours isn’t as long as mine-she couldn’t wrap around it completely.”
Suddenly, Adrian’s eyes narrowed. His fists clenched tightly. His cheeks flushed as he bore some unbearable sensation.
“She… She’s not just pinching… Why is she scratching too?”
