Chapter 80 The Blue Mark
Annelise’s eyes flew wide the instant she heard that.
“Hey-what kind of nonsense is that? Watch your mouth. Least presence, least valued-say something like that again, and I’ll make you the least valued one first,” she declared.
She honestly had no idea how to deal with this chubby rabbit.
She thought, If I punish him, he whines and cries, even threatening to die alongside me.
If I indulge him, his mouth only keeps spewing words sharp enough to stab straight into people’s hearts.
Her gaze
shifted to Hudson, worried that the fox-who already lacked affection-might start doubting himself again.
But when she looked back, she saw nothing but a calm smile.
He hadn’t heard a single word Adrian had said.
That only fueled Adrian’s anger.
Adrian leaned forward, irritation radiating from every inch of him. “Hmph. It’s just a blue mark-a male cub, that’s all. Everyone knows females are the most important. Our tribe already has too many males and far too few females.”
Both Annelise and Evan’s expressions darkened.
This time, Hudson spoke first. “It doesn’t matter. As long as it’s my cub, that’s enough. What’s wrong with being male? I’m male too. There are only so many females in the tribe. I can’t expect to catch up all at once. But…”
He brushed Annelise’s belly gently with his tail before continuing, “Whether the child is male or female, as long as they’re mine, I’ll do everything I can to protect them. I’ll tell them that no matter the color of their fur, I will always love them from the time they’re small.”
Once he finished speaking, Annelise and Evan both felt a tight ache rise in their chests.
Adrian, meanwhile, felt completely deflated. Those words had shaken him as well.
A sudden wave of pity for the little fox washed over him.
Even so, Adrian’s anger remained.

He snorted heavily and turned away.
He ran to the tree in the yard, squatted down, and rubbed his rabbit face hard.
Evan feared that he might cause more trouble, so he followed him outside.
“What’s wrong?” Evan asked.
“Thinking about what you said before-‘chubby at first doesn’t count; only chubby at the end does’? So tell me, Rabbit-are you chubby now?” he questioned.
Adrian sniffed hard. “Chubby my a*s… I didn’t get a cub, didn’t even get my first mating. After all that fighting and scrambling, I ended up with nothing. Turns out I’m not even capable-I’ve got nothing at all.”
He nearly laughed, but seeing the rabbit cry so miserably, tears streaming down his face, he forced the laughter back.
“Then do better next year,” he encouraged.
The moment Adrian heard that, his tears fell even faster, splashing onto the ground. “Next year… right, next year! My ‘not-working’ problem hasn’t even been treated season is over…”
yet, and
my heat
He lifted a brow. “Your heat season runs from February to April next year. That’s only two or three months away. What exactly are you crying about?”
Just then, a knock sounded at the courtyard gate.
“Who is it?” Evan called.
The person outside hesitated before answering. After a brief silence, a voice replied, “It’s me. Snowball.”
Adrian sprang to his feet and rushed to open the door.
“What are you doing here?” he snapped. “Don’t tell me you’ve already heard that the matriarch and the little fox are having a cub?”
Snowball’s amber eyes narrowed instantly. “What did you just say?!”
Adrian’s rabbit cars and tail sprang out on instinct. Fear surged through him.
The silver-haired youth standing before him was radiating a trace of predatory menace.

Adrian clutched his ears tightly and stammered in a low voice, “I-I meant… the matriarch and the little fox are having a cub…”
Evan gave him a light smack. “The matriarch hasn’t stepped out of her room since last night. How could he possibly know?”
He added coldly, “You stupid rabbit-stop making a fool of yourself.”
Adrian shook his long, drooping ears and muttered, “You’re right… yeah, he probably wouldn’t know.”
By then, Snowball had already shoved his way inside, striding straight toward Annelise’s room.
The force of it sent Adrian stumbling backward. “Ow!”
Evan reached out in time to steady him.
