Reborn as the Boss Lady novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24 Misunderstood

Jerome’s voice was calm and even, but it carried a lethal edge.

With a sharp whoosh, the finger that was about to poke Wynne’s cheek quickly changed direction.

Hehe!

Vincent’s smile didn’t change one bit. If I don’t feel awkward, then nobody can make it awkward.

“Hey, Miss. Let me introduce myself. I’m Vincent Hardin.”

His gaze kept flicking back and forth between Jerome and Wynne, sneaky and full of mischief.

With a sly grin, he politely extended his hand.

Wynne glanced at those long fingers and said flatly, “Wynne Sinclair.”

Smack!

Vincent only felt a light slap on his palm. Looking down, he saw Dylan puffing up like an angry little pufferfish, glaring at him, his delicate little face was written all over with “I’m mad.”

“Oh sweetie!” Vincent scooped Dylan up in one motion, kissing him on the left cheek, then the right.

Still not satisfied, he lifted him high and seated him on his shoulders.

Wynne watched as Dylan rolled his eyes, then tugged at Vincent’s hair.

Vincent said brightly, “Sweetie, I bought you another estate in Rostivia. Once it’s renovated next year, have your uncle take you to stay there! I even got you a bear-a real bear!”

Wynne’s eyes lowered slightly as she asked calmly, “Uncle?”

Two pairs of eyes turned toward her at the same time.

Dylan tilted his little head, cute and clueless, then pointed his tiny hand at Jerome sitting in the wheelchair.

He’s my uncle.

“You’re Dylan’s uncle?” Wynne asked, a bit speechless.

Jerome’s expression didn’t change. His face remained cool and detached as he met her gaze, those eyes sharp enough to seem like they could see straight through a person.

“I am.”

Wynne raised a brow. “And you let me misunderstand all this time?”

“You never asked,” Jerome shot back.

So, it’s my fault, huh?

For once. Wynne was left speechless. Then again, it didn’t really matter whether Jerome was Dylan’s father or uncle-it didn’t change the fact that he was still her big boss. That thought put her right back into her usual lazy, unconcerned mode.

“You guys talk,” she said.

She picked up the box in front of her, waved casually, and walked out of the dining room. Even her back carried a faint, roguish swagger.

Vincent frowned, confused. “Why would she think you were…”

As he spoke, he turned toward Jerome, then abruptly stopped mid-sentence.

Jerome, still in the wheelchair, shot him a cold glance. His face darkened.

Why is he looking at me like that?

Even wrapped in a fur coat, Vincent couldn’t help but shiver.

“Come to the study with me,” Jerome said.

In the study.

“Has she turned eighteen yet?”

Vincent poured himself a glass of whiskey after taking off his fur coat, ice cubes clinking sharply against the glass.

Jerome’s wheelchair was stationed in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. His sharp eyes were like a hawk’s.

Through the curved glass, the entire view of Sandmere Isle stretched out beneath them.

“Talk business,” Jerome said.

Vincent raised his glass toward him. “The air routes between three financial hubs-Hengria, Britannor, and Nydoria-and the Echelon Intercontinental Exchange-are finalized. From this point on, all obstacles have been cleared.”

When it came to serious matters, Vincent had never once been sloppy.

Jerome still said nothing. The low pressure around him hadn’t eased at all. It was heavy and suffocating.

“Though I have to say, you look better today. Been sleeping these past couple of days?”

Vincent brought the glass to his lips, his movements were effortlessly seductive, like he was a model. But before he could take a sip. Jerome suddenly spoke. And Vincent sprayed the whiskey all over.

“Cough, cough, cough… What did you just say?” Vincent choked, seriously doubting his own hearing.

Jerome, still in his wheelchair, looked at him coldly. His gaze was cold and lethal, as if he were already looking at a dead man.
