I’ll have to have her monitored until I’m sure I can trust her.
If she proves to be untrustworthy….
Well, that’s something I’ll think about if and when it happens.
“Thank you,” I say.
“I’d like to monitor you through the transition which will also give us time to do some research on the dream. How does once every two weeks sound?”
I open my mouth to speak but she cuts me off.
“I understand you’re busy so I’ll be more than happy to travel at your convenience.”
“That’s very agreeable. I’d be an idiot not to accept.”

“Very good.” She claps her hands together. “Well it looks like we’re finished here for today. I want you to go back to your room and get lots of rest. It might not feel like much now but you’ll feel the exhaustion soon.”
Emma stands and leads me out of her office. When we reach the waiting room it’s empty. I sniff the air searching for Hope’s scent. It’s been some time since she’s been in this room.
“Where is she?” I ask.
Emma frowns. “Give me a second, let me check.”
She walks over to her receptionist and they have a short murmured discussion before she
turns back to me.
“Hope, left but she was told our session would be done in two hours. I’m having Jenna contact the enforcers to see if they’ve seen her.”
My instincts prickle at the way she says that.
“Is this type of behavior something uncommon for Hope?”
I don’t have to elaborate. She knows I mean Hope’s integrity to her word.
She said she would be here when I get out but from the looks of things it is more likely that
she left the building as soon as she managed to get out of the examination room.
Emma sighs. “Yes. If she says she’ll be somewhere she’s there.”
My wolf and Lycan are alert now.
“How long will it take the enforcers and warriors to confirm?”

“A few minutes.” She reaches around the receptionist desk to pull out a pen and note pad and scribbles something on it.“Hope agreed to let me give you this.”
I take it.
Hope’s phone number.
I nod, already pulling out my phone. “Thanks for this.”
She watches me dial. “Keith… try not to overwhelm her.”
“She ran off. I just want to make sure she is okay.”
The line rings. Once. Twice. Straight to voicemail.
I clench my jaw, end the call. Dial again. No answer.
The phone rings and Jenna answers it. A few moments later she shouts. “Kiran said she drove off the territory about two hours ago and hasn’t been back since.”
“Has anyone been able to get in contact with her?” Emma asks.
“No,” Jenna replies.
Emma looks at me and the worry I see there sets off my alarm bells.
I shove my cell into my pocket and head for the door.
“Keith,” Emma calls.
I pause but don’t look back.

“She’s not denying you to hurt you. Just be patient with her. There is more to this mating than you think there is.”
I don’t respond but my thoughts riot.
Hope told her about the bond?
Does that mean she feels it?
If it were any other time I’d revel in the breakthrough but right now that’s the furthest thing from my mind. I can’t explain it but something doesn’t feel right.
I feel it when my beasts merge, the creature inside me something wild and fierce, a force so large the hairs on my arms stand on end.
When he speaks his voice is cold and calm.
Must find mate.
We will buddy, I say getting a feel for this new, complete being inside of me.
I rush through Blue Rock ground to the pack parking lot and hop into my car.

When I reach the gate the warrior stationed there seems to know what I’m doing and lets me pass through without issue.
I guess I have Emma to thank for that.
I drive with my hands strangling my steering wheel.
I don’t know this damn town, a fact that becomes clearer as I find myself going up and down streets without direction.
Every block looks the same. Every storefront, every diner, every gas station–none of it tells me where she might be.
So, I just keep driving, deciding to rely on my instincts.
My beast grunts in agreement.
She left. Something I can understand given how she is struggling with admitting our bond. But Emma assured me she gave her word to be there. I know she may not like me much, but I don’t think she’s someone who goes back on her word.
None of this feels right.
I make a right turn. Something in my chest pulls tight. My beast growls urging me forward. I scan every inch of my surroundings, slowing my car to a crawl.
Then I see her.
“Shit-”
Three guys have her lifted up. Her head looks to the side but I see the jerking movement to indicate struggling.
“No,” she slurs.
They laugh.
I throw the truck into park and jump out.
“HEY!” I shout.
They all freeze.
