Chapter 164 Not That Kind of Movie

Nora never finished the sentence. On screen the scene had already gone past kissing. The lead actor pulled the actress’s top off with no clever camera angle and nothing blurred out, and there it all was.
Adventure movie? This is porn.
Nora’s eyes went wide. She twisted around and clapped a hand over Julian’s eyes. “Don’t look!”/
Julian had been watching her the whole time anyway. “Why not?” As far as he knew, it was still just a kiss.
Nora kept her hand where it was. “It’s not worth watching.”
She couldn’t have explained it if he asked. Her first instinct was that he wasn’t going to look at another woman’s body, not even one on a screen.
Julian put the kissing together with whatever came next, and his mouth curved. “All right. I won’t look.”
“Not worth watching,” Nora said again. “Let’s go to bed.”
She was done with the movie herself, and her hand stayed over his eyes. “Stand up and keep them shut. I’ll walk you out.”
Julian answered with a low sound, put his own hand over his eyes, and let her pull him up out of the seat.
Being led through the dark by her did something to him that he had no words for.
Nora got him clear of the seats and had just started to breathe again when it happened.
“Ah!” The cry from the screen stopped her dead.
Julian, eyes shut and following her hand, walked straight into her back.
“Ah!” The impact knocked Nora forward, and she went down.
“Nora!” His eyes came open. He got an arm around her waist, hauled her in against him, and took the floor himself so she landed on top of him.
They hit the ground together and ended up eye to eye, and the quiet between them caught fire.
Both of their faces went red, and without a word they turned their heads at the same moment to avoid each other’s eyes. The only sound in the room was the movie, and the whole thing couldn’t have been more awkward.
Nora put on a calm face, braced both hands on his chest, and tried to sit up before standing.
Nora’s ankle gave out halfway. Pain shot up through it, she sucked in a breath, and she dropped straight back down.
Julian let out a sound he hadn’t meant to make, because she had come down square on him.
Nora went scarlet. She wanted to get up and didn’t dare move too fast, so she settled for sounding unbothered. “Sorry. I twisted my ankle and lost my balance.”

Nora pressed her hands into his chest and tried again, slower this time.
Juan caught her wrists, his voice low and rough. “Don’t move.”
Nora went stiff and stayed that way, because the red creeping into the corners of his eyes made him dangerous right then.
Julian kept a hand at her waist and sat up with her, slowly.
Nora braced against his shoulders and tried to use him to get her feet under her.
Julian looked at her face for a moment longer, then lifted her the rest of the way up.
Nora had barely found her balance when he scooped her off the floor and carried her toward the bed.
The movie was still running on the screen behind them.
Nora panicked. “Julian, we’re only-”
Julian didn’t let her finish. “Your ankle is hurt. I’m going to look at it.”
He set her down on the bed and looked straight at her, his voice rougher than before. “I want to. I can barely stand it. But I’m not an animal.”
Nora sat there and looked up at his face, and on the way up her eyes caught somewhere else. She went red, turned her head away, and mumbled something back.
Julian glanced down at himself, turned away fast, and went to shut the movie off.
Then, he called Hattie and asked her to bring up some muscle rub for the sprain. After that he took a bottle of cold water out of the fridge and drank the whole thing before the heat in him started to settle.
Julian checked himself one more time, decided it wasn’t obvious anymore, and came back to her. “Let me see your foot.”
Nora’s face was still hot. “You don’t have to. I already looked at it. It’s a mild sprain, nothing serious.”
“Let me see.” Julian went down on one knee in front of her, took her foot in both hands, and set it on his thigh. There was no arguing with him when he got like that.
“I really don’t need this.”
Nora tried to pull her foot back, and his grip tightened. “Hold still. Your nightshirt is about to show everything.”
Nora stopped moving at once, sat up straight, and pulled the hem down where it belonged.
Julian looked the ankle over, red and a little swollen, and pressed on it lightly. “Does that hurt?”
“No.”
“What about here?” He pressed harder.

“Ah.” Nora flinched. “Yes. That hurts. Go easy.”
Julian said.
