Chapter 318 Under the Peach Tree

Finished

Just when the others were starting to wonder if Yvette had been messing with them, Nora’s shovel hit something hard. She stopped, jumped down into the hole, and started digging with her bare hands.

Julian jumped in after her and dug with his bare hands too.

Before long, they uncovered a piece of pale white bone.

“Mom,” Nora whispered, trembling all over. All of a sudden, fat tears were rolling down her cheeks.

The day her mother left, she’d promised to braid Nora’s hair into something pretty when she got back. She’d promised to take her on a trip to Southbridge. But she never came back. All this time, she’d been right here, nothing but bones buried in the dirt.

Nora couldn’t hold back. She clawed frantically at the dirt with her bare hands, tears streaming down her face. “Mom… Mom…” She didn’t dare use the shovel. She was afraift it would hurt her mother.

It was as if she wanted to tell her mother about all the years she’d spent missing her, and all the pain she’d been through. Her mother had loved her so much.

When Julian saw that her fingers were bleeding from digging, he hurried over and wrapped his arms around her. “Stop. The police are here. We can’t disturb the scene. We need to preserve the evidence.”

When Victor saw the bones, he went numb. He knew there was no covering this up anymore.

He grabbed Kendra’s hand. “Kendra, baby, help me. Get your dad to pull some strings for me. Our baby can’t grow up without a father…”

Kendra yanked her hand away in disgust. “You’re the most disgusting client I’ve ever had. At your age, chasing young girls is bad enough, but you actually thought you could marry a rich, gorgeous heiress?”

“Wh-what are you talking about?” Victor stammered.

Kendra went to stand beside Nora. “She’s the one who’s been paying me. As for the baby, all it took was a printout of somebody’s ultrasound.

“Watching a creep like you and your homewrecker wife tear each other apart? That was so satisfying. Consider it a little gift for my boss.”

Now Victor and Yvette understood. Nora had been behind all of it. She’d tracked down Gary, and she’d arranged the paternity tests for Gary, Mandy, and Blake.

The whole point had been to turn Victor and Yvette against each other. Nora just hadn’t counted on the bonus of hearing them confess to Laurel’s murder.

Now that everything had come out, Victor and Yvette didn’t put up a fight. The police led them away in disgrace.

The investigation wrapped up quickly, and Victor confessed to everything.

Nora really wasn’t Victor’s daughter. When he’d saved Laurel, she was already two months pregnant.

Victor proposed to Laurel and said he was willing to be the baby’s father. Maybe Laurel said yes to repay him for saving her, or maybe for some other reason, but either way, she married him.

Things had been good enough at first, but then Victor started an affair with Yvette. At first, it was just a secret fling.

But once Victor had money, Yvette wasn’t content to be his mistress anymore. She showed up at their door with Mandy and pressured/Laurel to divorce him and step aside.

After that, Victor and Yvette murdered Laurel and kept the azurewort all to themselves.

Given how heinous the crime was, Victor and Yvette were convicted of premeditated murder, along with a list of other charges, and both were sentenced to life in prison. Nothing they did could change that.

Victor hated Yvette and Mandy now, so after he went to prison, he hired a lawyer and signed the entire Sinclair fortune over to Nora.
