It seemed that no matter how resolute Annie sounded, she was still very honest about what she wanted. Sean followed behind her into the elevator. Looking at her cool, aloof profile, the lust in his eyes was almost overflowing.
Once they entered the room, he swung the door shut and impatiently reached to grab her hand, but she turned around first, avoiding his touch. Her gaze was calm, untouched by any emotion.
"Ann," Sean said, his heart sinking.
He spoke hurriedly, trying desperately to win her back. "Don't be fooled by Christian. He's not some marketing manager. He's the CEO of Parker Group! He stands at the very top. How could he possibly be serious with you? He only approached you to use you.
"Ann, there's no way you and he can be together. Come back to me. I'm the only one who truly—"
Sean hadn't finished when a soft laugh cut him off.
Annie laughed. "I know."
Her red lips parted, and she uttered two words. "But that's none of your concern."
The expression on Sean's face suddenly froze, all color draining from it in an instant. It seemed like he couldn't understand what Annie just said. Or perhaps he simply couldn't believe it.
"W-What did you say?"
The smile on Annie's face deepened. She looked at him and enunciated each word clearly. "I said, I know who Christian really is. But what does that have to do with you?"
She didn't spare him another glance and turned to leave. Sean's mind went blank, and he instinctively moved to chase her.
"Ann!"
Annie had already stepped out of the room. On that beautiful face was a coldness and mockery he had never seen before. The door slammed shut in front of him. At the next moment, the sound of the lock clicking into place came from outside.
