Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack novel Chapter 102

Chapter 102

“You were concerned enough to show up uninvited, smirking at his bedside while my mate and infant daughter were present, and immediately after leaving, he suffered another cardiac episode serious enough to require emergency intervention,” I said, my voice sharpening despite my efforts to maintain control. “That’s not concern, Genevieve. That’s deliberate provocation.”

“I didn’t intend-” she started, but I cut her off.

“I don’t particularly care what you intended,” I said. “What I care about is that my father nearly died today, in part because you couldn’t respect a boundary he’d already clearly established weeks ago. That ends

now.”

She was quiet for a moment, some of her earlier composure finally cracking slightly. “Thirty years, Damon. I’ve known your father for thirty years, in various capacities. It’s difficult, simply accepting that everything ends because he’s decided to change, however genuine that change might actually be.”

“I understand that might be difficult for you,” I said, my voice hardening further. “But his recovery, his actual survival, matters considerably more than your difficulty accepting a boundary he’s entitled to set. I’m telling you clearly, formally, as future Alpha of this pack-you do not have authorization to visit him, contact him, or approach him in any capacity going forward. If you violate that, I will treat it as a direct threat to pack leadership’s wellbeing, with all the consequences that designation carries.”

Her eyes widened slightly at the formal weight of the threat, understanding clearly registering now that I’d moved beyond simple personal request into actual pack authority. “You’d actually formalize something like that? Over a personal matter?”

“When that personal matter nearly kills my father through deliberate provocation, yes,” I said firmly. “This isn’t about punishing you for whatever history existed between you. This is about protecting someone I care about from continued, deliberate stress that’s actively endangering his recovery and his life.”

She sat with that for a long moment, processing it, before finally nodding slowly, something resigned entering her expression. “I understand. I won’t approach him again.”

“Good,” I said, some of my tension easing slightly at her apparent acceptance. “I want to be clear-this isn’t personal animosity toward you, Genevieve. I don’t know the full history between you and my father, and honestly, that’s not my business to fully understand. But his health, his actual survival, takes priority over any unresolved feelings you might still be carrying.”

“I understand,” she said again, quieter this time, something almost vulnerable beneath her earlier composure. “For what it’s worth, I do genuinely care about him. That wasn’t performance today, whatever it might have looked like.”

“Maybe not,” I said. “But genuine care doesn’t excuse deliberately provoking someone in fragile medical condition, especially after being explicitly told your presence isn’t wanted.”

She nodded again, accepting the point, and rose to leave, pausing briefly at the door.

“I hope he actually recovers fully,” she said quietly. “Genuinely, whatever you think of my earlier actions

today.”

“I hope so too,” I said, meaning it despite my lingering anger.

She left, and I sat alone for a few minutes, processing the entire exchange, before finally standing and making my way back toward the medical wing to check on my father once more before returning home to Evelyn and Willow.

I found him resting peacefully, the healers confirming his vitals had returned to stable, reassuring numbers, and settled briefly in the chair beside his bed, watching him sleep.

“I handled it,” I said quietly, mostly to myself, understanding he was too deeply asleep to actually hear me. “Genevieve won’t be bothering you again. And I’ve made sure only family has access from now on. Whatever else you still need to work through, with Mom, with your own past, you’re not going to face any more ambushes like today’s.”

I sat with him a while longer before finally heading home, exhaustion from the entire eventful day settling heavy into my shoulders, but underneath it, something more settled too-the satisfaction of having actually protected him, decisively and effectively, rather than simply reacting to crisis after crisis without ever addressing root causes.

Evelyn was waiting when I arrived home, Willow already asleep in her crib, and she looked up with quiet, careful attention as I settled onto the couch beside her, clearly reading the exhaustion and residual
