Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack novel Chapter 105

Chapter 105

Damon pov

I was sitting with my father the next morning, reviewing the written statement he’d carefully prepared, when a knock sounded at the door and two council members stepped inside without waiting for a response-Helena, whom I recognized immediately from the previous hearing, and a man I didn’t know as well, older, carrying the same formal, measured authority.

“Alpha Cross. Alpha-elect.” Helena inclined her head slightly, her expression carefully neutral. “We apologize for the intrusion, but given the seriousness of the allegations, the council felt it necessary to gather testimony as quickly as possible.”

My father’s expression tightened with obvious annoyance, though he maintained careful composure despite it. “I understand the urgency, though I’ll note that conducting an interrogation in a hospital room seems less than ideal given my current condition.”

“We’re aware of your medical situation,” the older council member said, settling into the chair Callum had brought in earlier. “We’ll keep this as brief as possible, but we do need your direct account, given the nature of what’s been alleged.”

I watched my father carefully as the questioning began, understanding the delicate balance he needed to maintain-honest, thorough answers without the emotional intensity that might genuinely stress his recovering heart.

“Tell us about your relationship with Genevieve Ashworth,” Helena said, notebook ready.

“We were involved, on and off, for approximately fifteen years,” my father said, his voice steady despite obvious underlying tension. “I ended the arrangement several weeks ago, around the time I began genuinely reassessing many aspects of my previous conduct as Alpha and as a husband.”

“She alleges you threatened her when ending the relationship,” the older council member said. “Can you speak to that claim directly?”

“I was firm,” my father said carefully. “Clear that I wasn’t interested in continuing, regardless of her feelings on the matter. I don’t believe I ever threatened violence or used pack authority to intimidate her. I simply ended something I’d come to understand was fundamentally damaging, both to my own character and to my marriage.”

They continued for several more minutes, careful, methodical questions about timeline, about the nature of their interactions, about whether any witnesses existed who might corroborate either account. My father answered everything directly, his composure holding despite obvious fatigue building as the questioning stretched on.

I watched anxiously, understanding how much strain this was placing on him even as he maintained careful control, grateful when Helena finally seemed satisfied with his responses.

“Thank you for your cooperation,” she said, closing her notebook. “We’ll need to speak with you as well, Alpha-elect, regarding your own conversation with Ms. Ashworth.”

“Of course,” I said, though genuine anxiety tightened in my chest at the prospect of formal questioning about something I’d handled with complete confidence just yesterday.

Before they could begin, the door opened again, and Evelyn stepped inside, Willow settled against her shoulder, her expression carrying obvious, barely contained anger as she took in the scene.

“I heard council members were here,” she said, addressing Helena directly. “I’d like to give my account as well, regarding what I witnessed at the hospital the day this entire situation started.”

Helena studied her for a moment, something assessing in her expression before nodding. “That would be helpful. Please, go ahead.”

Evelyn settled Willow more securely against her shoulder before speaking, her voice steady despite the obvious anger still evident beneath her careful composure. “I was visiting Robert with my daughter three days ago when Genevieve Ashworth entered the room, uninvited. She had what I can only describe as a knowing smirk on her face, clearly enjoying whatever discomfort her presence was causing. Robert immediately told her to leave, that whatever arrangement they’d previously had was finished, and that she shouldn’t return. Moments after she left, he suffered a serious stress-related cardiac episode requiring emergency intervention from the healers.”

“You’re certain about the timeline,” the older council member asked. “Her departure directly preceded his medical crisis?”
