Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack novel Chapter 114

Chapter 114

“For how long,” I asked. “Pregnancy isn’t exactly something that stays hidden indefinitely, Damon. Eventually it becomes obvious, regardless of how carefully we try to protect the information.”

“I know,” he said, sitting back slightly, clearly turning over the practical implications alongside the emotional weight of everything. “We’ll figure out timing, figure out exactly how to balance genuine caution with actually celebrating this pregnancy the way it deserves to be celebrated.”

I appreciated his steady, practical approach even as the underlying fear remained present, understanding he was trying genuinely to hold both realities-the joy of this unexpected pregnancy and the legitimate danger still surrounding our family-without letting either one entirely overshadow the other.

“Are you happy,” I asked quietly, needing to understand his genuine reaction beneath the immediate, practical concerns. “About the pregnancy itself, I mean, separate from everything else complicated surrounding it.”

Something soft and genuine crossed his face at that question, his hand moving instinctively to rest gently against my still-flat stomach. “Completely happy,” he said, his voice thick with genuine emotion.” Scared, yes, given everything else happening right now. But genuinely, completely happy about this baby, about growing our family further, especially after everything we’ve worked so hard to rebuild together.”

Something in my chest eased slightly at that, grateful for his honest, unguarded joy despite the complicated timing, and I leaned into him again, allowing myself finally to feel some of the genuine happiness beneath the overwhelming fear.

“I love you,” I said quietly, the words arriving easily now, no longer requiring the careful deliberation they once had. “And I love this baby already, even though I’m terrified about what it means, bringing new life into everything happening right now.”

“I love you too,” he said, pressing a gentle kiss against my forehead. “And I love this baby too, completely, regardless of how frightening the timing feels right now.”

We sat together for a while longer, the immediate shock slowly giving way to something more settled, more genuinely hopeful despite the underlying fear still present, before Damon finally helped me up, guiding me gently toward the living room where we could actually process everything more fully.
