Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack novel Chapter 117

Chapter 117

Damon pov

I got Evelyn settled into bed, exhaustion finally winning out over her lingering fear, though her sleep still looked tense, fragile, her hand curled protectively over her stomach even unconscious.

I moved quietly through the apartment afterward, checking each lock, each window, the careful, methodical routine I’d adopted these past three weeks since the first threatening note appeared. Sarah was posted just outside, another warrior stationed at the building’s rear entrance, and still I checked everything myself, unable to fully trust the security to anyone else’s vigilance alone.

My phone buzzed as I finished securing the last window.

An unknown number. I opened it warily, already suspecting exactly what I’d find.

“We know about the baby. You can’t keep her safe.*

Ice flooded through my veins, cold and immediate, my hands actually shaking slightly as I stared at the screen. We’d told no one beyond my parents, hours ago, in the privacy of our own living room. How could she possibly already know?

My wolf surged forward instantly, fury and protective terror both crashing through me in equal, overwhelming measure. I felt my hands curl into fists, felt the familiar prickle beneath my skin that signaled how close I actually was to losing control entirely, to shifting right there in the middle of our living room out of pure, uncontained rage.

*Destroy her,* my wolf snarled, no longer content with simple vigilance, no longer willing to wait for council investigations or careful, measured legal process. *She threatens our mate, our pup, the new life growing inside her. End this now.

I forced myself to breathe, forced my hands to unclench, understanding even through the haze of fury that shifting now, alone, driven by blind rage rather than actual strategy, would accomplish nothing beyond potentially endangering everyone I was trying so desperately to protect.
