Liana’s POV

“Luna, please,” Mary said, her voice soft but firm as she approached me. “You need to calm down.”

I was still standing in the middle of our destroyed bedroom, my chest heaving as I searched for something that would never be found. My baby. My son. Where was he?

“He was here,” I whispered, my hands trembling as touched my stomach. “He was moving yesterday.”

Mary stepped closer, her eyes filled with something that looked like pity. I hated that look. I’d seen it too

many times lately from everyone in the pack.

“Luna, you lost the baby days ago,” she said gently. “Remember? You were in labor, but he didn’t make it.”

The words hit me like ice water. Cold. Shocking. Real.

“No,” I shook my head violently. “No, that’s not right. I would remember losing my baby.”

“You were in the medical wing,” Mary continued, her voice careful. “Dr. Peterson said the baby was too

weak. Your body couldn’t carry him.”

I turned to see him standing in the doorway, his face twisted with disgust as he took in the chaos I’d created. The overturned furniture. The scattered clothes. The sheets I’d ripped from the bed.

“Jaden,” I whispered, hoping he’d come to comfort me, to hold me while I grieved.

Instead, he scoffed. The sound was harsh and cold, nothing like the gentle man who used to whisper

sweet words in my ear.

“Look at this mess,” he said, walking into the room with deliberate steps. “Look at you.”

His eyes swept over me with such disdain that I felt naked. Exposed. Worthless.

“I was looking for our baby,” I said weakly.

“Our baby is dead, Liana!” he shouted, making me flinch. “He’s been dead for days, and here you are acting like a pathetic child, tearing apart our room like some kind of mad woman.”

Each word was like a slap. I stared at him, waiting for the apology that never came. Waiting for him to take it back and hold me and tell me everything would be okay.

The mention of Clara’s name made my stomach clench with a familiar mixture of jealousy and fear.

“No,” Jaden said, his voice growing louder with each word. “She picked herself up and became stronger. She’s about to become Luna of Shadowfang Pack. Luna of one of the most powerful packs in the region.”

I felt the blood drain from my face. “What?”

“You heard me,” he said with cruel satisfaction. “While you’ve been here crying and breaking things like a spoiled child, Clara has risen above everything we did to her. She’s getting mated to Alpha Darius, and there’s going to be a ceremony.”

The room started spinning. Clara was becoming Luna? After everything I’d done to destroy her, she was getting everything I’d dreamed of?

“She’s becoming Luna while you can’t even function as one,” Jaden continued mercilessly. “If Clara had lost our baby, she would have grieved properly and then returned to her duties. But you? You fall apart and expect everyone else to clean up your mess.”

I opened my mouth to defend myself, but no words came out. How could I argue when the evidence of my breakdown was scattered all around us?

“I almost regret choosing you over her,” he said, and those words hit me harder than any physical blow could have. “At least Clara had strength. At least she could handle being a Luna. No matter what Clara is, she’d never let herself become this pathetic mess you’ve turned into.”

He gestured around the destroyed room with disgust.

“You’re supposed to be Luna of this pack,” he said. “But look at you. You’re being taken care of like a child by pack members who should be looking to you for leadership. You’re pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.” With that, he turned and walked out, leaving me standing there shaking like a leaf in a storm,
