CHAPTER 136

Liana’s POV

Luna, everyone in the packhouse has heard the shouting, she said carefully. And some of the omegas have seen the aftermath.

Shame burned through me like acid. The entire pack knew I was falling apart. They’d all seen their Luna reduced to a crazy woman searching for babies that didn’t exist.

No wonder Jaden was disgusted with me.

What are they saying?I asked, though I wasn’t sure I wanted to know.

Mary’s hands stilled on the fabric. Luna, perhaps it’s better if you focus on getting well rather than-*

Tell me,I interrupted.

She sighed. Some are

Others what?

porned. Othersshe trailed off.

Others are wondering if you’re fit to be Luna.

The words hit me like a physical blow. My own pack members were questioning my ability to lead them.

After Mary left, I spent two hours in the bathroom, washing away every trace of my breakdown. I scrubbed my skin until it was red, brushed my hair until it shone,/and applied makeup to hide the evidence of my

tears.

When I looked in the mirror again, I saw the woman Jaden had fallen in love with. Beautiful. Put together.

Perfect.

Now I just had to find him and remind him why he’d chosen me.

I walked through the packhouse with my head held high, but I couldn’t ignore the looks I was getting. Some pack members quickly looked away when they saw me coming. Others whispered to each other after I passed.

Near the main staircase, I passed a group of teenage girls who were probably discussing their training schedules. The moment they saw me, their conversation stopped abruptly.

Good afternoon, Luna, one of them said with forced politeness.

Good afternoon,I replied, trying to sound normal and authoritative.

But after I passed them, I heard the whispers start again. I couldn’t make out the words, but the tone was clear. They were talking about me.

In the kitchen, the scene was even worse. The moment I entered, all conversation ceased. The head cook, Mrs. Patterson, looked up from her prep work with obvious surprise.

CHAPTER 1

Luna, she said. quickly wiping her hands on her apron. I wasn’t expecting to see you today?

The way she said it implied that she hadrit expected to see fre functioning at all.

I wanted to discuss the menu for next week,” I said, trying to reclairh some sense of normalcy and authority.

Of course,” Mrs. Patterson said, but I noticed how she glanced at the other kitchen staff. They were all watching me carefully, like they were waiting for me to break down again.

As we discussed meal plans, I could feel their eyes on me. Every time I paused to think or took a breath, I saw them tense slightly, as if they expected me to start screaming or crying.

The conversation felt stilted and uncomfortable. Mrs. Patterson, who used to chat with me easily about pack preferences and special occasions, now spoke in careful, measured tones. Like she was talking to someone fragile.

When I left the kitchen, I heard the immediate resumption of whispered conversations behind me.

But it was the looks from the omega girls that hurt the most. Sarah, who usually did my laundry, barely met my eyes when she handed me my clean clothes.

Thank you,I said, trying to sound normal.

You’re welcome, Luna, she replied, but her voice was different. Careful. Like she was talking to someone

unstable.

I noticed how she kept the laundry basket between us, maintaining distance. How she handed me the clothes quickly and stepped back immediately.

Sarah,I said, is everything alright?

Of course, Luna, she said quickly. Too quickly. I just have a lot of work to finish today.

But I could see the truth in her eyes. She was uncomfortable around me. Maybe even afraid of me.

When I walked past the common areas, the conversations stopped. The silence followed me down the hallway like a shadow.

In the library, two warriors who had been discussing patrol routes immediately stood and bowed when they saw me.

Luna,” they said in unison.

Please, continue your discussion,I said, trying to act like the Luna I used to be.

But they didn’t continue. Instead, they made excuses about needing to report to their commanders and left quickly.

I was alone in the library, surrounded by empty chairs and the echo of conversations that had died the moment I appeared.

CHAPTER

They all knew. Every single person in this packhouse knew their Luna was broken.

reached Jaden’s office and knocked softly on the door.

Come in,” his voicecalled from inside.

I opened the door and stepped in, expecting him to look up and smile at me like he used to. Instead, he barely glanced in my direction before picking up his phone

Ryan, I need you to review the border patrol schedules,” he said into the phone, completely ignoring my presence.

I stood there for several minutes, waiting for him to acknowledge me. But he contífreed his conversation as if I wasn’t even in the room.

The security arrangements need to be finalized by tomorrow,he was saying. And make sure the extra patrols know their routes.

I cleared my throat softly.

Jaden glanced at me with annoyance, then held up one finger, signaling me to wait. But instead of ending his call quickly, he started a new topic.

Also, check with the kitchen staff about the supply orders. We’re running low on several items.

My heart sank. Before our baby died, if I’d entered his office, he would have ended any call immediately to

focus on me. I’d been the most important thing in his world.

Now I was an interruption.

He continued discussing pack business for another ten minutesthings that could have been handled in a brief message or saved for later. The inventory of weapons. The schedule for next week’s training. The maintenance needed on the eastern fence line.
