CHAPTER 139

Liana’s PUV

The next morning, I woke with a new sense of purpose burning in my chest. Clara thought she was safe in her new pack, protected by Alpha Darius and his warriors. She thought being far away would keep her safe from me.

She was wrong.

I dressed carefully, choosing clothes that made me look put together and strong. The broken woman who had been searching for ghost babies was gone. In her place stood someone with a mission.

I found Jaden in his office, already buried in paperwork. When I knocked and entered, he barely looked up. What do you need?he asked without lifting his eyes from the papers.

I wanted to talk about the patrol schedules,” I said, moving to stand beside his desk. “I noticed some problems that could be fixed.

This got his attention. He looked up at me with surprise.

You’ve been looking at the patrol schedules?

I am Luna of this pack,I said firmly. It’s my job to help you protect our people.

For the first time in days, I saw something other than disgust in his eyes. It wasn’t love, but it wasn’t complete dismissal either.

Show me,he said.

I spent the next hour going through patrol routes with him, pointing out areas where we could make things better. I’d done my homework, studying the reports until I could talk about them like I knew what I was

doing.

When we finished, Jaden leaned back in his chair and looked at me.

This is good work,” he said quietly. I’m glad to see you’re taking your duties seriously again.

The praise felt like water to a dying plant. I’d missed this. I’d missed being useful to him.

I want to be the Luna you need, said.

Then keep this up,he replied. The pack needs to see their Luna working, not falling apart.

I nodded, remembering that he still cared about what the pack thought of me. That meant he still cared about us, even if he was hiding it.

After leaving his office, I walked through the packhouse with new confidence. I had work to do, and it wasn’t the kind Jaden expected.

I needed to learn everything I could about Shadowfang Pack and their routines. More importantly, I

needed to find Clara’s weay

ara down, i needed to do

But first, I had to be smart about this. If I was going to tak thinking it was the That meant acting like the perfect Luna while secretly planning my sister’s destruction The thought filled me with dark happiness.

I spent the rest of the morning handling kuna duties. I met with the kitchen staff about meals, looked at supply requests, and checked on the omega girls training schedules. Every conversation was perfect showing everyone that their Luna was back in control

But my mind was working on something else.

That afternoon, I told Jaden I was going for a run to help clear ray head.

The fresh air helps me think better, I explained. I’ve been feeling trapped lately

He nodded, probably thinking exercise would help my mood and keep me from having another breakdown

Just stay in our territory,he said. And don’t go alone if you’re running near the borders.

Of course,I agreed, though I had no plan to follow that rule.

I shifted into my wolf form and headed toward the area near Shadowfang territory. I stayed in our own lands, but close enough to watch their patrol patterns.

For two hours, I waited in the bushes, watching and listening. Shadowfang Pack was known for good security, and I expected their patrols to be careful and wellplanned.

But I saw nothing. No movement, no sounds of wolves coming.

Maybe I was in the wrong place, or maybe their patrol times were different than I’d thought.

Frustrated but not giving up, I made my way home as the sun began to set.

The next morning, I woke before dawn. If Clara was anything like she used to be, she would be an early riser. She’d always liked morning runs, saying they helped her focus for the day.

I told Jaden I was having trouble sleeping and that an early morning run might help tire me out.

I’ll be back before breakfast,” I promised.

He was still halfasleep, so he just grunted and rolled over.

Perfect.

I shifted and made my way toward the border area, getting there just as the first light of dawn was touching the sky. This time, I found a better hiding spot in thick bushes that gave me a clear view of Shadowfang territory.

And this time, I got what I was looking for.

As the sun began to rise, I heard the sound of paws coming closer. Several wolves came out of the trees

en their side of the border, moving it a losse group.

And there, tunning slightly ahead of the others, was Clara.

Even from far away,+ could see she’d changed. Her posture was different, more confident. She moved like someone who had found her place in the world, someone who belonged, someone who was everything I should have been.

The sight of her filled me with such rage that had to stop my wolf from wanting to attack. But this wasn’t the time for stupid moves. I needed to be smart.

I watched them for over an hour, taking note of their route, their timing, and how they moved. Clara seemed to have a specific job, often breaking away from the main group to check areas the others missed.

She was careful, dedicated, the perfect Luna.

It made me sick.

When they finally went back into their territory, I made my way home, my mind spinning with ideas.

The next morning, I was up before dawn again, bringing Jaden coffee in his office before he even started

his day.

You’re up early,” he said, looking surprised but pleased.

I couldn’t sleep, so I went for that run,I said. It helped clear my head, so I wanted to get an early start on

Luna duties.

Good,” he said, taking the coffee gratefully. I’m glad to see you’re taking better care of yourself.
