Within tiinutes. I could see movement through the trees on the Shadowfang side of the border. Wolves were turning toward the western disturbance, leaving their usual patrol routes to investigate the threat.
Perfect.
I waited, watching the grove of trees where Clara always appeared. My hands were steady as I held the syringe and cloth, ready to move the moment I saw her.
And there she was.
Clara emerged from the treeline alone, just like she did every morning. She was in her wolf form, moving with that confident stride that made me want to scream.
But not for much longer.
I watched her approach the grove, following her usual pattern. She shifted to human form when she reached the trees, probably to examine them more carefully.
This was my chance.
I crept forward, staying low and using the bushes for cover. Clara was completely focused on her task, checking the trees for any signs of intrusion or damage.
She had no idea I was there.
I was only a few feet away when she finally sensed something was wrong. She started to turn, her nose twitching as she caught an unfamiliar scent.
But it was too late.
I lunged forward, covering her mouth and nose with the drug–soaked cloth while jamming the syringe into
her neck.
Clara’s eyes went wide with shock and recognition when she saw my face. She tried to fight, tried to shift, tried to call out through the cloth.
But the drug was already working. Her struggles grew weaker, her eyes started to glaze over.
“Hello, sister,” I whispered as she collapsed in my arms.
Within seconds, she was completely unconscious. The drug had worked even faster than I’d expected.
I quickly checked to make sure no one was coming. Before shifting, I pulled out a small vial from my pocket. Inside was a mixture I’d carefully prepared–wolfsbane extract mixed with crushed silver dust and rogue blood I’d collected from recent border skirmishes.
The combination was powerful enough to mask any werewolf scent completely. Wolfsbane confused the senses, silver disrupted scent tracking, and rogue blood would make any tracker think this was just another rogue incident.
I poured the mixture over both Clara and myself, making sure to cover every inch of our exposed skin. The

smell was nauseating, but it would make us completely untrackable to any wolf nose.
Then I shifted to my wolf form. Grabbing Clara’s unconscious body in my jaws, I began the journey back to Shadowcrest territory.
She was heavier than I’d expected, but adrenaline gave me strength. I moved as quickly as I could while staying hidden, using paths I’d memorized during my scouting trips. Every few hundred yards, I stopped to sprinkle more of the wolfsbane mixture on the ground, ensuring any tracking wolf would lose our trail completely.
The sounds of conflict from the western border were getting louder. Fommy was doing his job, keeping the Shadowfang patrols busy while I made my escape with their precious Luna.
By the time the sun was fully up, I was back in Shadowcrest territory with Clara’s limp body. I took her straight to the old storage building at the edge of our territory, the one that hadn’t been used in years. The guards I’d arranged were already in position, just as I’d ordered. Marcus and Jake were stationed at the front, while David was covering the back approach.
