Alpha Jaden’s POV

All the memories of the past few months came flooding back. The constant comparisons to her that had made me realize my mistake. The way Liana could never measure up to what Clara had been. The growing certainty that I’d thrown away the best thing in my life.

I’d been such a fool. Such a blind, arrogant fool.

Clara had been everything I’d ever needed in a mate, and I’d rejected her for Liana’s prettier face and more

submissive nature. I’d chosen weakness over strength, appearance over substance.

And now, somehow, she was here. Fate was giving me another chance.

I wouldn’t waste it this time.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered to her unconscious form. “I’m so sorry for everything I did to you. But I won’t let you

go again. I promise.”

I started working on the chains that held her, my fingers fumbling with the locks. Whoever had done this

had been thorough. The restraints were tight and secure.

As I worked, my mind raced with questions. How had Clara gotten here? Who had brought her? And why

had Liana ordered guards to keep her hidden?

The answer to that last question seemed obvious. Liana must have somehow arranged for Clara to be brought here. Maybe she planned to use her as leverage, or maybe she just wanted to gloat over her

victory.

It didn’t matter. What mattered was that Clara was here, and I had a chance to fix everything.

I finally got one of the chains loose and was working on the second when something caught my eye.

On the side of Clara’s neck, partially hidden by her hair, was a mating mark.

My blood turned to ice.

I brushed her hair away from her neck again, studying the bite mark that some other Alpha had dared to

put on my mate.

“He had no right,” I said, my voice shaking with rage. “You were mine first. You’ll always be mine.”

I leaned down toward her neck, positioning my mouth over Darius’s mark.

“You’re mine, Clara,” I whispered against her skin. “You’ve always been mine.”

Just as I was about to bite down, Clara’s eyes snapped open.

For a moment, we stared at each other in shock. Her brown eyes were wide with confusion and fear, trying

to focus on my face.

“Jaden?” she whispered, her voice hoarse.

“Yes,” I said, relief flooding through me. “It’s me. I’m here to save you.”

But instead of the gratitude I expected, horror filled her expression.

“No,” she said, trying to pull away from me. “No, get away from me.”

“Clara, it’s okay,” I said, tightening my grip on her. “I know what happened. I know Liana brought you here But I’m going to fix everything.”

“Let me go,” she said, struggling weakly against my hold. The drugs were still affecting her, making her

movements slow and unsteady.

“I can’t do that,” I said. “I need to mark you first. I need to get rid of his claim on you.”

“His claim?” Clara’s eyes widened with understanding and terror. “You mean Darius? Jaden, he’s my mate My chosen mate.”
