Rejected by Her Mate Claimed by Four Alphas novel Chapter 170

CHAPTER 154-1

Clara’s POV

Two days had passed since Jaden and Liana’s insulting visit. Two days since they’d waltzed into my prison and had the nerve to offer me scraps from the table I used to sit at as an equal.

They thought they could manipulate me. Thought they could dangle the Luna position in front of me like I was some desperate, broken woman who would be grateful for their mercy.

The audacity of it still made my blood boil.

Liana wanted me to do all the work while she played the perfect mate. Jaden actually thought I’d be thankful to come back and clean up the mess they’d made of the pack. They both believed I was weak enough, desperate enough, to accept their pathetic offer.

They were about to learn how wrong they were.

I’d spent every waking hour since their visit studying this place, but now it wasn’t just about escape. It was about teaching them a lesson they’d never forget. They wanted to see what a broken, defeated Clara looked like? I’d show them what a furious, vengeful Clara was capable of.

Two days of being chained up like an animal, pretending to be weak and broken while I planned something

much more satisfying than just running away.

They thought they’d won. They thought I was defeated. They actually thought they could catch me off

guard and kidnap me.

They were wrong.

I spent every waking hour studying this place. The guards changed shifts every eight hours. There were usually two outside, sometimes three during the night. The walls were old and cracked in places. Most importantly, there was a loose ceiling panel right above where they’d chained me.

If I could reach it, I could get into the space above and find my way out.

But first, I needed the guards to trust me a little more. I needed them to see me as harmless.

The sound of footsteps outside told me lunch was coming. I quickly arranged myself to look defeated,

slumping my shoulders and letting my hair fall across my face.

The door opened and Jake entered carrying a tray of food. He was young, maybe early twenties, and I

could see the discomfort in his eyes when he looked at me.

Good. That discomfort was something I could use.

Thank you,I said softly as he set the tray down within my reach. I gave him a small, grateful smile. I know this isn’t easy for you either.

Jake paused, clearly not expecting kindness from a prisoner.

You’re just following orders,I continued. I understand that.

He nodded quickly and headed for the door, but I could see I’d made an impression. His steps were less confident, his posture less rigid.

Perfect.

I ate slowly, thinking through my plan. The ceiling panel was about seven feet above me. The chain gave me enough room to stand and move around a small area, but not enough to reach it normally.

I’d need to create a distraction. Something that would bring the guards inside but not make them

suspicious.

After I finished eating, I picked up the metal plate and began tapping it against the wall. Not hard enough to seem like I was trying to break anything, but rhythmic, like a drumbeat.

Тар. Тар. Тар. Тар.

I kept the rhythm steady, letting it echo through the old building.

Within minutes, I heard footsteps rushing toward the door.

What the hell is that noise?Marcus’s voice called out.

I don’t know,Jake replied. It’s coming from inside.

The door burst open and both guards rushed in, looking around for the source of the sound.

I kept tapping the plate, looking up at them with sad eyes.

Hey,Marcus said sharply. Stop that. What are you doing?

I let my hand fall, the plate clattering to the floor. I’m sorry,” I said quietly. I was justremembering.

Remembering what?Jake asked, his voice gentler than Marcus’s.

The children in my pack,” I said, letting my voice break slightly Alpha Darius and I used to play drums with them during story time. The rhythm helps me remember their faces.”

Marcus’s expression softened immediately. Jake looked like someone had punched him in the gut.

CHAPTER 154-2

They remembered. I’d been good with the pack children when I lived here. I’d helped with their education, played with them, told them stories. It was one of the few things about my time in Shadowcrest that had

been genuinely happy.

I miss them so much,I continued, letting a tear slip down my cheek. The drumming makes me feel

closer to them.

Marcus and Jake exchanged glances.

Look,” Marcus said finally, I get that you’re hurting. But you can’t be making noise like that. It carries

through the whole building.

I’m sorry,” I said again. I justI feel so alone.

Jake stepped forward. Maybemaybe you could do it quieter? Just enough so you can hear it?

Marcus shot him a look, but Jake continued. She’s been good so far. No trouble, no escape attempts. And

the kids did love her.

Marcus sighed. Fine. But keep it quiet. And if anyone asks, this conversation never happened.

Thank you,I said, giving them both a grateful smile. I’ll be careful.

They left, and I waited until I heard their footsteps fade away.

Phase one complete. They trusted me a little more now. More importantly, they’d given me permission to

make noise.

I picked up the plate and began tapping again, but this time I had a purpose beyond just rhythm.

Using pieces of torn fabric from my clothes and the chain itself, I started building a contraption. It took hours of careful work, but I managed to create a system where the plate would continue tapping against

the wall even when I wasn’t holding it.

The setup was crude but effective. A piece of chain hooked to a loose floorboard, tied to fabric that held the plate. When the floorboard creaked from settling or wind, it would pull the fabric and make the plate

tap.

It wasn’t perfect, but it would buy me time.

Once my contraption was ready, I tested it. The tapping continued even when I moved away, though it was

irregular now instead of rhythmic.

Close enough.
