CHAPTER 73

Alpha Killian’s POV

I stepped out of my vehicle and stretched, grateful to be done with the long drive to Shadowfang territory. The journey had taken most of the morning, and I was ready to get this treaty renewal over with.

Coffee would be perfect.”

Xander led me toward the packhouse, but something caught my attention before we reached the entrance. The sound of combat echoed from somewhere nearby, along with shouts and the clash of bodies hitting the ground.

Training session?I asked, nodding toward the noise.

Yes, Alpha. Our warriors maintain daily practice schedules. Alpha Darius believes in keeping everyone

sharp.

I was about to continue following Xander when I decided to take a quick look at the training grounds. Darius was known throughout all the territories for producing exceptional warriors, both male and female. It never hurts to observe other packstraining methods.

r Would you mind if I watched for a moment?I asked Xander. I’m always interested in seeing different training techniques.”

As I watched, she ducked under a punch from the first warrior, spun around him, and kicked the second warrior in the chest hard enough to send him flying backward. Before the third warrior could react, she had him in a chokehold.

The first warrior tried to grab her from behind, but she somehow sensed him coming. Without releasing her hold on the third warrior, she kicked backward with her heel, catching the first warrior in the stomach and doubling him over.

The second warrior had recovered and was charging at her again. She released the third warrior, who collapsed gasping for air, and met the second warrior’s charge headon. They grappled for a moment before she thre

st as I was thinking about how remarkable this warrior was, a scent hit me like a physical blow.

The most incredible smell I had ever encountered wafted through the air. It was sweet and wild at the same time, with undertones of something distinctly feminine but powerful.

My wolf immediately went insane inside my head.

fighter! had been watching was my second chance mate.

She was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

I had heard about second chance mates, of course. The Moon Goddess sometimes blessed those who had lost their true mates with another opportunity for love. But I never imagined it would happen to me.

This woman was a rare gem. Not just because of her fighting skills, but because of the power I could sense radiating from her. She was strong, confident, and compietely in control of herself.

Unlike other Alphas I knew, I wasn’t interested in dominating a mate. I had no desire to break her spirit or force her into submission.

What I wanted was to tempt her, to seduce her, to make her crave me the way I was already craving her.

I wanted her to choose me, not submit to me.

The three warriors had gotten back to their feet and were preparing for another round. My mate took a fighting stance, ready to take them on again.

This was my chance.

I moved quickly, circling around the edge of the training ring until I was positioned behind one of the warriors. My mate was focused on the opponents in front of her, preparing for their next attack.

The warrior closest to me lunged forward, and my mate moved to counter his attack. At the same moment, I stepped into the ring and intercepted her strike.

Her fist connected with my forearm instead of her intended target. The impact was solid, proof of the power behind her punches.

Instinctively, she spun toward me and struck out with her other hand, aiming for my chest. I caught her wrist easily, my fingers wrapping around her delicate bones.

For a moment, we both froze.

Γ Her eyes met mine, and I felt the world stop turning. They were the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen, fierce and intelligent and completely captivating.

She stared at me with a mixture of surprise and wariness, clearly trying to figure out who I was and why I had interfered with her training.

I stared back, unable to look away from her face. She was even more beautiful up close than she had been from a distance. Her features were delicate but strong, and there was something in her expression that spoke of inner steel.

We stood there like that, her wrist still caught in my grip, our eyes locked together in a moment that felt like it might last forever.
