Chapter 5
“If that pup had lived,” I said quietly, “he’d be about Finn’s age now.”
I let out a slow breath, something between a laugh and a sigh.
My hand hovered near my cigarette pack, but I stopped myself.
After a beat, I kept going.
“Because of the pregnancy, I didn’t push to sever the bond. That pup wasn’t just going to inherit Fenrir Core-he was the future Alpha of the
Hale Pack.”
“Our bond was already falling apart. Ronan had shattered every illusion I had left. But from a practical standpoint? It was still worth something.”
Ronan had managed to keep two she-wolves in his life, balancing everything with surgical precision.
I became the one who stayed quiet.
Swallowed every insult, every public scandal, while his name stayed clean and Elise’s star kept rising.
Elise’s fanbase grew fast. Obsessive.
They romanticized her relationship with Ronan, treated it like some kind of fairy tale.
Then, seven months pregnant, I was driving home from a Fenrir Core meeting when it happened.
A car T-boned me at an intersection. Driver was one of Elise’s fans.
“The pup came early,” I said, my voice flat.
“When I woke up… I was the only one who made it.”
And Ronan?
He buried the story. Protected Elise’s image. Kept her career intact.
Even though I spent six months in and out of the hospital.
Even though we lost our son.
“The bond severance took another six months. I fought hard. Walked away with more than half his stake in Fenrir Core.”
opped. Milo wiped away the excess ink with a clean cloth, revealing the design underneath.
wolf in mid-leap, frozen in motion, covering what used to be there.
And that,” I said, brushing my fingers over it lightly, “is how the second scar happened.”
I paused, then added, “Six months after the bond was severed, Ronan bonded with Elise. She became the Leader of Fenrir Core and Luna of the
Hale Pack.”
“They got their happy ending.”

“I left. Moved south. But the grief didn’t leave with me. I’d wake up at night thinking I heard a pup crying.”
“At my worst, I was drinking in the bathtub with a razor in my hand.”
“But time moves forward,” I said, meeting Milo’s eyes with a faint smile.
“It’s been five years since the mate bond ended.”
When I walked out of the studio, the afternoon sun was bright and warm. The sky over Silvermoon Isle was clear, and the air smelled like salt
and sea.
I was adjusting my leather cuff when I felt eyes on me.
I looked up. A black Range Rover was parked nearby, engine idling.
The back window rolled down. Ronan sat inside, watching me with that same unreadable expression.
“Where are you staying?” he asked, his voice calm. Too calm.
“I can give you a ride.”
Finn was sitting next to him, quiet, his big eyes locked on me.
Maybe it was the way the light hit his face. Maybe it was because Elise looked so much like I used to.
But something in me softened, just for a second.
I almost stayed. Almost said yes.
“Alpha Ronan, I’m fine,” I said evenly, keeping my voice steady. “It’s better if we keep our distance.”
“Goodbye.”
Silvermoon Isle wasn’t big, but the views were stunning. Blue sky meeting the ocean, blending together like a painting.
It reminded me of the day we bonded here.
I got in my car and hit the gas. In the rearview mirror, I saw a white sedan pull out behind me.
My pulse kicked up.
I pressed harder on the accelerator, trying to put distance between us.
At the next curve, I glanced up-and saw Ronan behind the wheel.
anked the steering wheel hard. Tires screamed as the sedan slid sideways, cutting directly into my path.
Islammed the brakes.
The seatbelt jerked tight across my chest, knocking the air out of my lungs.
I sat there for a second, catching my breath, then grabbed my bag and got out.
Ronan stepped out of his car, casual, like he hadn’t just run me off the road.
“Aurora, you hate me.”
