Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The weather alert had been screaming about tonight’s storm for hours.
By the time I opened the door, thunder was already rattling the windows.
Elise stood there-sunglasses on, face blank.
She pulled them off with one sharp motion, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe.
She looked exactly the same.
Five years gone, and she hadn’t aged a day. Still that flawless face. Still that unsettling way of staring at me-like she was studying a photograph she’d memorized years ago.
Something crawled under my skin. Familiar. Wrong.
Her knuckles went white around the frames of her sunglasses.
“I knew it was you,” she said quietly.
The door clicked shut behind her. Just the two of us now, boxed into this narrow hallway with nowhere to go. The air felt thick-hostile, almost.
“He stayed on Silvermoon Isle for a month,” she said.
“I knew it was because of you.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Elise, weren’t you always the righteous one? What’s this about now?”
Her voice cut sharp.
“What gives you the right to judge me? You were the other woman once, Aurora. And now? I’m his Luna!”
Her whole body trembled.
“Under Pack law, I’m the one bonded to Ronan now.”
The words hit like déjà vu.
Five years ago, I’d said the exact same thing-standing where she stood now, thinking I’d won something.
I leaned back against the counter, bored already.
“Elise, you really haven’t changed at all, have you?”
“You were the Lunek then, and the first person I went after was Ronan,” she shot back, her tone dripping with false pity.

confront me?”
Her head snapped toward me.
Lightning flashed-bright and harsh-and that’s when I finally clicked.
Her expressions. Her way of speaking.
She wasn’t just like me.
She was copying me.
Down to the cadence. The pauses. The way I used to talk back in college.
“What’re you so smug about?” Elise’s smile twisted into something ugly. Pitiful.
“Aurora, do you know which part of me looks most like you?” she asked, her voice laced with venom.
I didn’t answer.
“Everyone says it’s the eyes,” she continued. “But it’s actually the mouth.”
My heart lurched.
“Cover the top half of our faces, and you wouldn’t be able to tell us apart.” She laughed-bitter, broken.
“When I went to get my tattoo, that’s when I figured it out. I was kneeling between Ronan’s legs, kissing the inside of his thigh, and he covered my eyes.”
“What an honor, right? Bonding with Alpha Ronan?” she spat.
“So what if I started as the mistress? I still got what I wanted.”
“He protected you,” I said, my voice flat. “Crushed my career for you. Gave you everything.”
“I really thought he loved me,” she whispered. “Obsessively.”
“For five years, he played the perfect mate. Perfect father. But-”
“But he’s a pervert!” Her voice cracked.
“At his peak, he only says YOUR name. He made me imitate you-your mannerisms, your tone, even the way you speak!”
She bent over, shaking so hard she could barely stand.
“The whole estate was a shrine to you. Photos. Videos. All from your college years.”
“I spent days locked away, practicing in the dark. And when I was ready, I got to go out and play the glamorous star everyone loved.”
Nausea rolled through me. I took a step back.
“That kid,” Elise said

Her eyes locked onto mine, head tilting slightly.
“Why do you think that is?”
CRACK!
Lightning split the sky. Thunder roared. Rain hammered down like the world was ending.
“That kid,” Elise said, each word slow and deliberate, “is actually six years old this year.”
“Aurora… tell me-which one of us is more pathetic?”
Ice shot down my spine.
I clutched my room key and ran.
