Jenna’s breath caught.

“I told you,” Nina continued. “Playing Luna was always the plan. Jenna? She’s just a bump in the road. Ryker’s too proud to admit he chose wrong-so he’s doubling down. Let him.”

There was a pause as whoever was on the other end responded. Nina laughed softly. “Oh, she’s suffering. You’d love it. Cleaning floors, serving tea like some pathetic little servant. She looks like hell.”

Jenna’s heart pounded.

“And the best part?” Nina purred. “He hasn’t touched her since the Red Room night. He’s too busy being angry at her. But I’m sure he will want me soon. Once I’m Luna officially—once the council’s votes are sealed.”

Jenna stepped back, and the floor creaked.

She ended the call and tossed the phone onto the bed.

“I told you not to come in without knocking,” she said, voice dark and low.

“I was told to assist you,” Jenna said, forcing her tone even.

“Did you hear something you shouldn’t have?” Nina tilted her head.

Jenna didn’t answer.

Nina stepped forward, folding her arms. “You know, even if you told Ryker, he wouldn’t believe you. Not now. Not after what you did. He’s embarrassed, not just angry. And when powerful men like him get embarrassed, they protect themselves-by destroying the people who remind them.”

Jenna stood tall. Her body ached. Her pride was bleeding. But her eyes never left Nina’s.

“Enough of your madness, Nina!” You sound pathetic right now, Jenna scowled.

What did you just say!? Nina asked not believing she could dare challenge her.

“I’m not scared of you,” Jenna said quietly.

Nina smiled. “You should be.”

Nina stepped closer, leaned in, and whispered against her ear:

“Because I’m not just going to take everything from you, Jenna… I’m going to make you beg me to do it.”
