Her mouth smeared with hot oatmeal, Gillian collapsed onto the floor, hugging the trash can and retching.

She looked genuinely miserable, her eyes bloodshot from the pain.

"Emma! What on earth are you doing? How could you treat Gillian like this?"

Violet, usually so mild-mannered, glared at Emma furiously as she cradled her crying daughter.

Emma smiled pleasantly. She leisurely pulled out a tissue, wiping her hands as she spoke. "Ms. Jennings, when your daughter was throwing insults and slander at me, why didn't you know how to keep her mouth shut?"

The distant 'Ms. Jennings' made Violet stiffen. She clearly hadn't expected to be addressed that way.

Emma stared coldly at Gillian. "You showed up uninvited. The fact that I didn't have security throw you out was already giving you face. You didn't bother asking for the facts, accused me of having no self-respect, and I even explained myself to you."

Taking a slow step toward Gillian, Emma watched her instinctively shrink into her mother's arms. Emma let out a mocking laugh.

"But you knew full well what happened at the auction. You knew it was Raymond's order, and you knew about the penalty bet we made. You knew I used my own money to buy that ring, yet you purposely tried to frame me in front of others. If you don't want the dignity I gave you, then you can lose it entirely."

Emma's sweet, smiling demeanor as she delivered the threat sent a chill down the spines of Helena and Scarlett, who were watching in stunned silence.

"Enough. I don't care why you came looking for us today, but I never want to see you again."

Emma tossed the soiled tissue into the trash can. She lifted her chin, radiating an untouchable arrogance.

"Ms. Jennings, please take your daughter and leave my house right now, or I really will call security. The people who live in this neighborhood are high-society figures. I'm sure you don't want your precious daughter becoming the latest laughingstock of the elite circle, do you?"

Violet quickly helped Gillian to her feet, but looked at Emma with a mix of heartache and disbelief.

"Are you really going to address me so coldly?"
