Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 154

Emma looked up and smiled when she saw him.

"Done with work? Did my brother head back?"

Carter, who had been gloomy all afternoon, felt his dark clouds instantly vanish at the sight of her smile and her simple greeting.

He stepped forward and bent down, reaching out his arms.

Understanding what he was trying to do, Emma didn't resist. Instead, she cooperatively opened her arms and let Carter gather her into his embrace.

Carter's heart soared, his deep, magnetic voice laced with sheer delight.

"I finished up. I told him I was picking you up, so he headed back first."

This simple exchange caused a complete psychological reversal between the two Harrington men present.

Percy watched the scene with burning jealousy, his hands still gripping the wheelchair in deep resentment.

He was supposed to be Emma's boyfriend. He was the one who should rightfully be holding her right now.

Carter lifted Emma into his arms, then turned around to steal the bodyguard's job.

He walked up to Percy and raised an eyebrow. "The wheelchair."

"Carter."

Percy let go of the wheelchair, his similar features showing a different kind of sharpness.

"I know Emma doesn't like you."

Carter's eyes darkened slightly. "And?"

"I'll make her come back to me."

Percy clenched his jaw. He refused to believe that his six years with Emma could be beaten by their brief time together.

"If you have what it takes."

Carter effortlessly lifted the wheelchair with one hand and stowed it in the car before getting in himself.

Knowing the car window wasn't completely rolled up, he deliberately leaned in close to Emma, whispering in her ear from an angle that looked incredibly intimate to Percy.

"Wanna sit on my lap again? I'll have the driver arrange a different car tomorrow."

Emma wasn't one to act tough. Her shoulder was genuinely aching, and the constant stop-and-go of city driving would only make the injury worse.

"I'll have to trouble you, then."

Emma didn't decline. Carter couldn't wait to pull her onto his lap. As the car started, he made sure to cast a glance at Percy, who was still standing stubbornly by the road.

Watching his cousin's provocative smirk, Percy ground his molars in pure frustration.

He could give up the family fortune and the company, but he had to win Emma back.

"You should stay here while you recover. It'll be more convenient for whatever you need to do at home."

Carter wheeled her into the apartment. Emma had to admit he was very thoughtful.
