Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 160

Hearing those words, Emma found it utterly laughable.

She tugged on Carter's hand, pulling him closer to her side. "Ms. Jennings, please take a good look. My husband is Carter. Between his looks, his capabilities, and his character, why on earth would I need to fight for someone else's man?"

Carter was practically beaming from the praise. Even knowing she was just saying it to spite the Lockwoods, he couldn't stop the surge of joy.

In his wife's eyes, he was actually that incredible.

Yes, he definitely needed to keep working hard.

Helena also stepped forward, glaring unhappily at the third branch. "Your branch was the one pushing to ally with the Lockwoods in the first place. Percy was the one who initiated the breakup with Emma, and he's the one who chose his new girlfriend. Now that he wants to break it off again, instead of giving the girl's family an explanation, why are you all targeting our Emma?"

"If she hadn't seduced my son, why would he—"

The third branch aunt stubbornly pinned all the blame on Emma, refusing to let her precious son shoulder any of the fault.

Before she could finish, Percy cut her off.

"Breaking up with Gillian was entirely my own choice. It has nothing to do with anyone else."

Percy's eyes darkened. He hadn't liked Gillian much to begin with; he had only agreed to date her because she was a Lockwood, and because he wanted to make Emma jealous.

But now, no matter how much he catered to the Lockwood family, they couldn't compare to Carter, who had already secured a deep partnership with CFT.

And thanks to his own childishness, Emma had married his cousin.

"You cancel engagements whenever you feel like it. Once, twice—do you really think the Lockwood family is that easy to bully?"

Logan's expression was grim. Though he couldn't take on the entire Harrington family by himself, his skills were more than enough to make them bleed.

This was exactly why the third branch had agreed to let their son pursue the Lockwood girls. Not only did the Lockwoods have the Jennings family's connections, but they also had Logan, a financial prodigy.

"Who I, Emma Lockwood, choose to meet is my own business. If you have evidence proving I've been unfaithful in my marriage, lay it out on the table and let's talk facts. If you don't, then hoping to smear me, restrict me, and control me with a few empty words is absolutely impossible."

Instead of keeping their own son from harassing his cousin's wife, they were lecturing her on what to do. Did they really think she was a pushover?

Uncle Raymond's eyes darkened slightly. Despite both of them sitting in wheelchairs, their imposing presences were completely deadlocked.

Just as the standoff reached a point where no one dared to breathe, Pamela broke the silence.

"Emma is right. How could we blame her for what happens between Gillian and Percy? She was just discharged from the hospital yesterday and rushed back to the city. Going to see Percy must have meant Carter had something urgent to handle. If the kids don't want to talk about it, we shouldn't pry. Regardless of what happens with Gillian and Percy's engagement, the relationship between the Harringtons and the Lockwoods won't change."

Emma looked at Pamela. She sounded like an incredibly reasonable and understanding elder.

But why did Emma constantly feel that something was off?

"You don't have to guess. I met Emma to give her information regarding her kidnapping."
