She tugged on Carter's hand, pulling him closer to her side. "Ms. Jennings, please take a good look. My husband is Carter. Between his looks, his capabilities, and his character, why on earth would I need to fight for someone else's man?"

Carter was practically beaming from the praise. Even knowing she was just saying it to spite the Lockwoods, he couldn't stop the surge of joy.

In his wife's eyes, he was actually that incredible.

Helena also stepped forward, glaring unhappily at the third branch. "Your branch was the one pushing to ally with the Lockwoods in the first place.
