Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 17

Emma never realized how small the capital truly was—small enough to run into Gillian wherever she went.

She was in a good mood today, so she couldn't be bothered to entertain Gillian's provocations. She tried to step around her and walk straight into the restaurant.

But Gillian's posse immediately blocked her path.

"Hey, fake. Our Gillian is talking to you. Can't you hear? Are you deaf?"

Emma shot them an icy glance. "Aren't you a little too old to be playing the high school bully game?"

"What gives you the right to act so arrogant? You've been feeding off Gillian's family your whole life. How do you even have the nerve to open your mouth in front of her?"

As her friend backed her up, Gillian crossed her arms, adopting an air of absolute superiority.

Remembering Tristan talking about buying a car yesterday, Emma glanced at her own ride and smiled. "What's wrong? Did the great Ms. Lockwood fail to get the car she wanted, so now she thinks every car she sees belongs to her family?"

"Percy bought that car for you, didn't he? You claimed you were going to make a clean break, so why are you still riding in his car?"

Gillian was furious. Although the car Emma arrived in wasn't a limited edition, it was unreleased. The fact that Carter was the only person driving it made it virtually one of a kind.

She didn't even have one, so why should Emma?

"All the junk Percy gave me is already on a plane back. If you like it so much, I'll just have it shipped to the Lockwood estate. I was too lazy to sort through that trash anyway."

Back when they were dating, Percy constantly complained about the Harrington family's complex dynamics. He always claimed that his cousin controlled all the massive projects and that he didn't have much money.

Because of that, his gifts were mostly cheap tokens of affection, devoid of any real value.

Forget cars; the only thing even remotely valuable was a single watch.

After dropping that truth bomb, Emma moved to enter the restaurant. She had no desire to stand outside wasting her breath on Gillian. However, Gillian grabbed her arm roughly. Remembering the slap at the engagement party, she instantly let go, taking two steps back to block her path.
