Emma strode out of the restaurant without a second glance. That villa was filled to the brim with all the paintings from her youth.
She had used her brushes to immortalize every single moment of happiness—family vacations, Logan helping her study, and Tristan dragging her to the amusement park.
But happiness couldn't be locked away on a canvas. Those beautiful memories she had once sworn to cherish forever simply didn't belong to her anymore.
Emma returned to the hotel to find Carter waiting for her.
"Emma, the police just informed us that they caught Brenda's murderer. This is the video of his confession."
Jeff handed her a tablet to view the video. The second the man on the screen uttered his first word, Emma froze.
"He's the one who kidnapped me."
Emma remembered that repulsive voice instantly. It was the same sick bastard who had tried to force himself on her.
Carter frowned sharply. "Are you sure? He didn't say a single word about the car crash."
"The car crash was ruled a tragic accident, and there are still no real leads on the kidnapping. He's not stupid enough to volunteer information that would just add decades to his sentence."
Emma lowered her gaze. "Will he get the death penalty for the murder?"
"Not necessarily. Most likely, he'll be facing ten years to life."
Carter knew the legal codes inside and out, and he highly doubted this specific case would secure an execution.
Emma pondered for a moment, a sharp plan forming in her mind.
"Then just ignore him. As long as he's alive, his friends or family might slip up eventually. Treat him like bait and just pass the tip about my kidnapping to the police."
Emma decided to drop the issue entirely; the authorities could handle the rest. She had never lost sight of her true reason for coming to Garrison.
"Accompany me to Mercy Private Hospital, will you? I need to get a follow-up checkup."
Carter felt like he had heard that name somewhere before. He racked his brain during the drive before finally recalling it was the very same hospital Sebastian had casually mentioned during a previous visit.
It had supposedly been rebranded from another facility.
When they arrived, the hospital proved to be absolutely massive, yet strangely devoid of the usual frantic crowds.
The parking lot was packed exclusively with luxury vehicles. Noticing Emma's curiosity, Jeff quickly provided an answer. "I looked into it on the way here. Their consultation and treatment fees are astronomically high. However, their doctors and private care services are top-tier, so their clientele consists entirely of the ultra-wealthy."
